Hello gang,
My G4 MDD (single 1.25 GHz AGP) needs a new card so he can run Mac OS 9.2.2 again. I lent my ATI 9000 to a friend and I was left with no options :o
Does anyone have a spare card? What cards are the best for my G4?
Thank you very much.

Forgot to clarify that the MDD needs to be hooked to an Apple ADC Cinema Display.

Had a few extras and game them to members... I will look around, but you can get one for about $15...
This one looks awesome... $15.99

Thanks DieHard.
Although the eBay seller 'Does not ship to Spain' and I am in Spain.
I’ll keep looking for one at ‘home’.

i would suggest you go for a Geforce 4mx card
should be able to find this for very cheap online... featuring VGA + ADC
the radeon 8500 would be my reccommendation but it features no ADC port!

Unfortunately that Nvidea card will cause chronic problems booting video as PCI slots are filled. Fill 4 slots and nearly always you will get no video. Same problem on all dual OS9 MDDs. I have three MDDs running OS9 I had to put Radeon cards in.

Hi !
Thanks for your input. I have three PCI slots filled and one PCI slot empty. Still no problems with the nvidia card.

perhaps this is a problem to do with humidity/temperature/static electricity/dust or some other environmental thing going on in your house coachla?? just trying to think how it is you could experience such a thing, with multiple machines
might be related to the multiple pci bus that mactron made refernce to in the architecture of the mdd
i had a wierd problem with my megawolf serial card not workign and then i put it in a diff slot and it worked..
mdd's can be strange!

Those machines were running that card plus three Sample cell cards in different houses even. I believe I tried other PCI cards to compare. My feeling is there is a voltage drop on boot perhaps. One SC card would boot no video every few boots, 2 Cards more often, 3 cards more often still. It began with two new identical Dual 867 MDDs, I swapped a Radeon from my Dual 1.25 MDD and then the 867 did fine, but the 1.25 had the same problem with the Nvidea. OS9 we're talking here. I've now overclocked both to 1ghz and installed Radeons with no problems. MDD.... I was browsing here to find a category in which to pose this curious phenomena when I came across your post. But I'm glad to hear the Nvidea is doing you well. These are fabulous machines for MIDI.

perhaps the sample cell cards are sucking alot of juice yea.. and maybe the radeons run with less voltage? wierd!

absolutely!!!!!! and using old great affordable vintage midi hardware is the bizness;)

MDD... Take notice if you use a KVM. These cards also cause USB lockups and a screen reset. If you unplug your USB connection to your MDD computer from you keyboard and mouse and then immediately plug it back in to your computer, does your monitor flash off and then back on? Just curious....
-
No flashing here.
-
It takes time to affect the system preferences I think. If you're not using a KVM switch, its a non-issue for you. Of course, it could be my Geforce cards themselves. Yours may not have this issue at all.
-
i personally havent had any problems with my geforce cards..
i have used the geforce2mx, the geforce4mx and theyve both performed fantastically.
Mactron also uses a geforce4 ti and im pretty sure he has no issues... or else he wouldnt reccommend this card as the fastest card for os9
