Dear Friends
It tooks about two months, but finally succesfully get the ultra-rare Unisyn 2.1 installer.
I do not have a real power pc hardware yet, but installed on a QEMU emulated OSX 10.4 (under Win7).
If you are interested in, please PM me!
I also look forward to "MOTU SDK for Unisysn" to create new devices (for Lexicon PCM80 in my case), please, if you have any info about that SDK, share with us! :)
Best wishes: Csabi

great post mickeyratt 8)
this type of patch/librarian software is always of utmost importance to creatives struggling in the ongoing neverending fight against technology!
im hoping you can get the type of response you should get
but sadly i notice that alot of audio related posts on this site tend to be largely ignored by the most "Regular" visiters of this site.. who are more interested in just geeking out abotu macs... alot of people just want to chat and joke + amuse themselves by measuring dicks +online, whereas some of us are "on a mission" to realize our creativity! i just hope that more of us "on a mission" types can work together enough to push things forward for everyone
you are running OSX on windows 7?
i definately got to check out this QEMU stuff
ive not much experience with VMS or virtualiazation or any of that stuff

LOL!

see i didnt even know your post got moved (away from where anyone would go to look for unisyn stuff)
BANISHED to "Sit in the corner"
lol
you are free to inquire further on my site www.oldschooldaw.com if u dont get any responses here!
now that your post was sent to the corner
i had posted about the MOTU SDK just a few weeks/months ago
the only people that are going to have it are people that worked for existing companies from 1998-2004 time period - its a tough mission to track down - it really is disssappointing that these people who have these things dont have the instinct to make these things publicly available
-
Thank You macStuff for reply.
That was my first post, and i am new here. I did't know, that OSX stuff is "persona non grata" here. :)
Yes, later QEMU versions are capable to run even os9 :)
On windows, the setup is very easy, but miss some very important features, for example: the USB passthrough which is a must if you want to use any real USB audio hardware. (including MIDI adapters)
Since Unisyn is only for MIDI, its needs of resources are low, so can be run well in emulated environment.
It is sad, to hear, that the SDK is also rare. AFAIK, MOTU is not making money of Unisyn anymore, so that would be a logical and wise decision to open this stuff to public :)
Thank You!

All PowerPC Mac OS X stuff Audio Related is welcome to this subforum.

Hey Mickey,
That is a great find, the only reason we move the OS X stuff to a different area is because it confuses the newebies if we mix the OS 9 and X stuff together (after all we are "Macos9lives")... that being said, we of course welcome all legacy PPC X stuff since resources are drying up out there.
The oldschool DAW site is also a great site for musicians that are on different platforms (DOS, Win 3.X, Mac OS, etc.). We are focused of pretty much on OS 9 and PPC X apps/hardware, so your post is very significant since many users here are legacy dual boot users. It does NOT mean we are X a-phobic; we are just trying keep the sire as neat as possible and not confuse those buying their first G3 or G4. Thanks again for the post :)
Don't worry about starting "wars", we all have our opinions and as "sensitive artists" we get pretty moody around here at least once a month
-
Thank You DieHard!
I sent You the link for the software, and i hope, everyone can get this soon on the download area if interested :)

I kinda crackup when I see things like "read 6000"
Are there really that many interested in Unisyn ?
Boys, we've come a long way :)
actually.. yes;)
-
I'm trying to grab the old Unisyn 2.0 installer but adrive keeps telling me it's busy since last night. The copy of 1.5 that I had doesn't seem to work and keeps crashing after I launch the patched version.
-
I also downloaded Unisyn 2.0 from adrive, and it seems to me, it is working:

I eventually got it. adrive was busy forever though.

I'd like to get the unisyn 2.0, but still no luck with Adrive...
Hope someday It will come!

I've put Unisyn 2.0.toast.sit from adrive onto my google drive.

WoW! Thankyou !! 8)

First try, unsuccessful... I download it again
-
No luck for me today... I get error when trying install.
-
it is a bit suspecious that the icons are not invisible in the window of the mounted image.
try installing it in OSX, i think 2.0 should be carbon (and therefore the installer app, too)
-
Try Locking the TOAST file before opening it, after a fresh download, or mount it with Virtual CD/DVD ROM Utility if you cannot lock it.
I personally used the CD/DVD ROM utility, and:
-
I could extract the sit file with OSX Tiger. Now It loads on OS9, but dont locate the CD (image was mounted on Desktop with toast). I am near!
Thanks for helpings!
-
It seems that It doesnt like OMS :(
-
Maybe you can create two different Extension Manager sets, and pick which one you want when you start up with space bar held down (like one set with OMS enabled and the other diabled)

Great idea, but It does not fit well for my studio setup concept, surely I will use another computer for synth editors and BCR2000 programming for live synths tweaking 8)
Now I am interested about trying unisyn under macosx.
Do 2.1 version makes any big difference?
Many thanks for helpings!
-
unisyn and performer will only like OMS when the freemidi OMS driver is installed.
and while we are on it, you make snapshots on mac os via command-3 and command-4
:)
-
Thanks for hints 👍
Then I was wrong thinking that OMS and freemidi were not compatible... Need to test that 8)
-
Pretty sure it's cmd+SHIFT+3 / 4
Also for individual windows:
Cmd+Shift+Caps Lock+4, then click the Window you want to capture
All files are saved as PICTs in the startup disk root.
Easiest way to convert these to JPGs (or other format) is to launch Picture Viewer, from the QuickTime Control Strip Module, then "tear" off the app switcher and drag and drop the screensnap onto Picture Viewer in the torn off switcher, then I think you do File > Convert.
-
obviously unisyn is compatible with OMS + Freemidi;
you seem to be consistantly having some strange errors Irisman
can someone pm me with a url to download this unisyn 2.1 cd installer?
-

in danger of beeing wrong.. but i think it is pretty simple; installl both, have that "freemidi" OMS driver in the OMS folder, then it is operates pretty much straight forward. but i regulary mix it up with midishare, i think that was the one where i once used it with sucess.
-
Pretty sure it's cmd+SHIFT+3 / 4
right, thanks for correction (poor irisman probably tried command-3 for 100 times now)
also strongly recommended by the 110 departement: the "screenshot to desktop" sytem extension. (guess what it does)
-
I got it in my Extensions folder, shows up on startup but the screenshots save to my HD still (rather than on desktop). It sounds great though.
-
Thankyou again for help!
Now I have It working editing Yamaha V50
:D
Sorry for using mobile pics instead screenshot 😎
As MacTron says:. Keep It simple!

Finally some crashes makes me give up with Unisyn, the MidiQuest does the job better un my actual studio setup.
-
PCM 80/81 users just have bad luck. there are editors for sounddiver for 70 and 90 but not for the 80.
-
Finally some crashes makes me give up with Unisyn, the MidiQuest does the job better un my actual studio setup.
which midi interface are you having crashes with ??
is it a motu interface? or no?

I am using MOTU PCI 424, with 3 2408 attached, and 2 opcode Studio 4 plus 2 emagic (unitor 8 & amt 8)
-
sounds like an excellent setup! i also have a pci-424 but i only have one 2408mk2 motu unit so far..
and my studio 4 i bought doesnt want to work... perhaps something electrically wrong with it
but i do have a 128x and also an MTP AV
the studio4 works in tandem with the unitor 8 + amt?
im assuming the unitor 8 + amt are linked.. and the studio4 is not?
u can only link two of them at once when using an opcode/mtp
but with emagic amt/unitor8 u can link many more isnt that true?

I´ll try to explain:
the studio4 works in tandem with the unitor 8 + amt? --> Yes, the 4 racks (2 emagics + 2 studio4) works together, as long as the Opcode OMS Studio Setup recognizes the emagics if the driver for them are present in the system, so that gives a total 32 independent MIDI lines, 16 channels each of them, a total bunch of MIDI channels.
im assuming the unitor 8 + amt are linked.. and the studio4 is not? --> As said, you control 4 racks within OMS 8)
u can only link two of them at once when using an opcode/mtp but with emagic amt/unitor8 u can link many more isnt that true? --> With a single SERIAL port (that is my actual setup, with the JAMPORT mod installed), you can use only 2 Opcode Studio 4. I "only" have 2 USB emagic, but manual says that you can link up to 8 racks, connected to a single USB port at the MAC.

Hi Guys,
I know this is a slight necro-bump and possibly off topic (great start ;)) but does anyone know where the installer for 2.1 may be found? I've tried PM'ing MickeyRatt but no luck...
Thanks!
S

check your pm
-
I am also picking It 8)
-
Thank you to everyone who helped! I really appreciate it!
-
Is this 2.1 version different than the 2.0 one we have posted? I'm looking for the manual of Unisyn. Is it included in the 2.1 CD? The 2.1 version isn's posted anywhere.

Good evening to everyone and thanks for the help in keeping our old Mac PPC alive.
I’m trying to install Unisyn 2.0 on my PowerBook G4 with Tiger 1.4.11. But I can’t. It signals the error ' Can not locate the installer CD! ' It’s probably my fault. I read that there is a version 2.1 that does not require os9. I can’t find it anywhere. Could you help me?
Thanks.
-
I would love to get my mitts on 2.1.0!
Can anyone help me out?
Sorry if I'm being a a bit of a dummy but is this only for PowerPC hardware or will it work on Intel too?
Thanks guys. And thanks for the work you do in the forum here - it rawks. Great to see the old stuff still getting attention!
I was wanting to revive an old LCIII to be my editor librarian but it's looking like a pre-intel mini might be just the job.
-
Can anyone help with a copy of the Unisyn 2.1 installer please? Thanks in advance.
-
DEAR SIR
I am interested Motu Unisyn 2.1.0 installer CD Image
How can I get the image file?
-
hello mr. chang, i think this one is still here:

^ this one is for 2.0, can anyone help with an upload of the 2.1.0 installer?
Thanks
-
I've been going nuts trying to get Unisyn to run on an iBook with OS9, all kinds of issues. Is there actually a version that will run in OS X? I reeeeeally need this application or one of my older synths will have to be retired. Help if you can, and thanks.
-
Hallo first post here, greetings from ITA.
Any chance to have a PM with Unisyn 2.1 link?
I'm trying to revive an old Yamaha TG33. 8)
Thank you very much, Mario
-
So, I've read some specs and it looks more complicated than expected:
For Mac OS X:
Unisyn version 2.1 or later is required
PowerPC G3 CPU 233 MHz or faster, including all PowerPC G4 and G5 CPUs.
Not supported on Intel-based Macs.
128 MB RAM or more
Mac OS X version 10.2, 10.3, or 10.4; v10.2.4 or later is recommended. Mac OS X v10.5 or later is not supported
CD-ROM drive for installation and authorization
I was hoping to run it on Snow Leopard (Rosetta) but it appears to be unsupported. I have an old Macbook Pro MID 2010, Snow Leopard is the "base" system.
I should (tell me if I'm wrong):
- install a virtualizer
- install Tiger
- have version 2.1 (1)
Everything is correct? Thanks in advance, Mario
-
Ok, sorry, I continue my monologue ... ;D
Very short intro: as you can see I have been here for a few minutes, I did not know your site (badly, I know), but it is something wonderful, I would dare to say magical.
Looking in the various posts I found this:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,6043.msg45046.html#msg45046 (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,6043.msg45046.html#msg45046)
which is something simply incredible, also because I have a machine (Macbook pro 2010) with High Sierra and I couldn't believe my eyes when, after a few clicks, I saw the MacOS9 desktop!
(for the first time ever: I've been a Mac User since 2006, my first OS was Tiger)
However, as you can see from the screenshots (if I can post them):
- I virtualized Macos9 (perfect)
- I have Unisyn 2.0 installed! (perfect)
.... and here I am stuck ... :( :( :(
The problem is that the midi ports are not "seen", and i can't configure Unisyn without midi ports.
I use this cable: https://www.esi-audio.com/products/midimate2/ (https://www.esi-audio.com/products/midimate2/)
High Sierra sees the midi ports perfectly without any drivers ...
What to say: any suggestion is welcome, in the meantime I discover MacOS9, which is simply fantastic! (It is really going to buy an old MAC!)
-
QEMU virtualizes the entire machine, so it's not seeing the hardware connected to the host. I think you can do some sort of "pass-through" mode to connect USB devices to it, but I don't know how/if it works with this exact setup.
-
qemu needs to finally allow usb or pci audio devices passthroughs
we somehow need to get our audio devices connected so we can send digital audio in our out.
-

You can search some other posts, but you are most likely out of luck; a Virtual DAW (even just using MIDI) has not been accomplished yet Via QEMU, I better attempt would be SL Server under Parallels with Rosetta to get Unisyn and external MIDI stuff working. As far as USB passthru, I could not get a USB sound device working as explained here:
QEMU DAW System with working sound...

someone needs to bribe the qemu dev to make a audio build with usb and pci sound cards.

In the meantime, thank you all for your kind answers. Now it is clear to me that virtualization is a complicated road ...
So the first try went wrong ... I was thinking how to fix. I can definitely try the suggested route (SL Server under Parallels with Rosetta to get Unisyn and external MIDI stuff working), but 99 euros of Parallels license I don't know if it's worth it.
Now, on my Macbook Pro less than Snow Leopard I can't install, and even if I had version 2.1 of Unisyn it wouldn't work, so my old Macbook Pro is banned from games.
I see two possibilities (besides the one proposed by Die Hard):
1 - I could play the iBook card: my neighbor maybe (a maybe as big as a house) would lend it to me (she has one in a drawer that she doesn't use).
I know there is Tiger installed, but we are all over again: I would still need the 2.1 version of Unisyn (I hope some good souls hear my words ... :D)
2 - buy an old Power PC laptop where can I install Macos9. Here again I ask for your advice: you have a model to suggest? (possibly not very old, USB and firewire are welcome, however I'll try on Mac Tracker)
The use would be only for programs like Unisyn to better manage my old synthesizers.
What to say again, thanks for your precious interest and I close with a few words for Die Hard: I seem to have understood that the virtual image of Macos9 is your work with some collaborators.
Here, I can say what others have surely already told you: it is truly a work of art, without a shadow of a doubt! Well done!
-
In the meantime, I found these two official downloads, maybe useful for someone:
Unisyn 2.02 Mac Update: https://cdn-data.motu.com/downloads/unisyn/uni_2.02ud.sit.hqx (https://cdn-data.motu.com/downloads/unisyn/uni_2.02ud.sit.hqx) for MacOS9
Contains update patcher and update notes to update Unisyn 2.0 or 2.01 to Unisyn version 2.02.
This is a maintenance update of Unisyn 2.02. Please refer to update notes for improvements.
Unisyn 2.11 OSX Update: https://cdn-data.motu.com/downloads/unisyn/unisyn_2.11.zip (https://cdn-data.motu.com/downloads/unisyn/unisyn_2.11.zip) for OSX
Maintenance update for Unisyn 2.1 OSX. Unisyn 2.1 OSX must be installed an authorized via installer CD for this update to run.
Obviously it is necessary to have the program already installed, they are only upgrades.
So is there any chance of having a link for 2.1? Thank you
-
I found a CD-R of 2.1 and uploaded it to the garden. I don't have an appropriate Mac to test it on right now, and I don't have a note of the serial number, although I do actually have a vague recollection of installing it by taking a 2.0 serial number which started with the digits "20" and changing it to "21". Unsupported upload, no refunds :)
