Title: using rewire with logic 4.81+
Post by: supernova777 on January 13, 2014, 09:04:26 PM
i would like to get a step by step guide to using logic 4.7, 4.81, 5.x etc with rewire that is illustrated + really easy to understand
(im pretty sure its very similar in all of these versions if not identical process)
but for now this post can serve this purpose in the meantime

http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/rewire-1-work-logic-5-os-x/

from memory i think that it was a rudimentary implementation in 4.7
and complete implementation in 4.81+

basically the rewire channels are accessed by:
-opening the mixer view
-clicking the channel name (in white letters) below each channel strip
-looking to the left panel where the properties ofthe track are displayed
-clicking the value for channel ("Ch")
-a dropdown option select dialog appears and u select "instrument" then mouse carefully to "Others>" at the bottom and it will show u the rewire channels for alll installed applications, reason, rebirth, live, etc

i believe u have to have at least one channel selected in this way BEFORE U LAUNCH THE SECONDARY APPLICATION and they should launch, with their transports linked... + if u select the proper rewire channel for its main 1or2 (L or R) outputs from the app, u should get sound!!!

keep in mind with these versions YOU MUST HAVE BELOW 1GB RAM (OR EXACTLY) or logic may not function properly (audio will not play out of the main window, only the sample editor)

http://www.sweetwater.com/forums/showthread.php?37280-LOGIC-PLATINUM-REWIRE-REASON-anyone

some discussion here going on about some type of problems but i dotn really understand what the problems were because i think rewire support was in v4.8

perhaps they are reffering to the more advanced rewire 2 spec re:midi between apps over rewire?

ReWire 2 has been extended with more functionality such as MIDI streaming and a toolkit for communication between the applications.

as i have recently ordered a copy of logic 5 w/ upgrade to 6
i will be going into the details of this and getting to the bottom of all of the problems + workarounds tht differ between the diff versions (4.7 vs 4.8 vs 5 vs 5.5 vs 6 Etc)
as well posting more info from the manuals on how to get people up + Running with logic 4.8x
(which we have a working re-distributable copy of)
