Title: Forgot the name of a Finder Window Manager Utility – any idea?
Post by: ratzfatz on February 03, 2018, 04:18:08 AM
Hi, I know there has been a utility around to arrange the windows in the Finder. Instead of going manually from folder to folder in order to set up the preferred view (I prefer list view) – all you had to do was selecting the volume and the general (default) apperance of each of all the Finder windows on it.

You just had to push a button – and bingo! All Finder windows on that volume had been perfectly arranged within seconds. Even the size of the window was reflecting the amount of files within. My problem: I forgot the name of this utility.

I am just browsing through tons of old projects which I like to check and archive. Would be so nice if all Finder windows will look alike after I burned them for storage. Any ideas?

Many thanks for your help.  :)

Wow… so long ago. I think this might work.
In Finder/Preferences/Views you can set what you define to be the standard characteristics for all views.
New folders will then automatically display that way.
You can reset "old" folders to your standard by opening then going to View/View Options and clicking "Set to Standard".
I think if you select an entire volume and "Set to Standard" everything on it will inherit the standard OR
Maybe do a "select all" within the volume and Set to Standard.

One of those ought to work… maybe

Rearrange Folders 1.2.1 for Power
Macintosh released

Stefano Ghielmi and Henrik Rintala are proud to
announce the release of Rearrange Folders for
Power Macintosh computers.

Rearrange Folders is an application which works
together with the Finder of Mac OS 9 and lets the user
to rearrange the windows of folder hierarchies so that
they can be neatly stacked when opened in the Finder.
It can also be used to rearrange and resize Finder
windows so that when the same folders are later opened
on screens with smaller resolutions they are inside
the
visible screen area. The program is ideally suited for
those who need to create CD-ROMs regularly or those
who want to save screen space or have less clutter on
their desktops. It also makes navigating in the file
system simpler since one can easily see at which level
the user is in the folder hierarchy.

Rearrange Folders requires a Power Macintosh computer
and Mac OS 9. It may even work with earlier system
versions but such configurations are not supported by
the authors.

Rearrange Folders is shareware $20 for single users.
Site and  world-wide licensing options are available.

Screen shots, instructions and the program are
available at:

Links from the INFO-MAC archive generally don't work anymore. You have to look at the hqx at the start and then google 'disk/rearrange-folders-121.hqx' and then you generally arrive on Applefritter, but sometimes they don't have it.

and then you look at the bottom for the "Attachment"

I also wrote a program for myself that rearranges CodeWarrior text windows. It's not that difficult. The window position and size and font name and size and selection are stored in MPSR resource 1005. Open this in Resorcerer and you'll see how it has to be done. Rearranging windows is indeed very fast. On my computer it takes 30 seconds on a volume with 20000 files.

Finder is a spatial file manager. The position and size of our windows are of the most important features and need an elaborate solution.
