Title: System 7.53 or 7.55 will not advance into 2020!
Post by: Syn-Fi on March 10, 2020, 10:44:45 AM
hi,
my Quadra 700 on System 7.55 will not advance into 2020 date/time.  Are there any workarounds?

I read this somewhere in the vast internet wasteland.
I cannot confirm it BUT it's worth a try.

The story goes: you cannot SET a date past 2019 in Date/Time.
BUT, the clock and Calendar WILL get there by themselves…SO
You set the Date/Time to say, 12/31/2019 11:59PM
Supposedly, the date WILL advance to 1/1/2020 at 12:00 and after that , you can set the correct D/T.

Let us know if it actually works.

The problem is with the Date & Time Control Panel (around sys 7 to 8 era) which will not let you set the century of the year. It cycles from 1920 through to 2019.
The OS itself understands beyond 2020.
A solution is to set the date via some other method. Some Alarm clock utilities may offer this.

When we had the power off last month, my 9500 (7.6.1) with flat battery reset the date. Fortunately, it runs Retrospect 4 (server) which identified the oddity, and offered a method to set the date correctly.
My P475 (7.5.5) which eats batteries for breakfast, was also stuck in 1920 recently. Retrospect includes a 'sync time on client' feature, so was able to correct the time here too (remotely from the 9500).
