do i have to install os9 to another disk just to be able to boot up and repair my existing disc? how do i fix this.. i tried disk utility in x but it didnt work at all so im gonna have to install another install of 9 on my x partition and boot up to it and hope it lets me repair my 9 partition from that?
i wanna know why disk first aid on boot cant fix the problem??

attached image of the error im still getting even having booted into a different partition install
says disk first aid cannot fix the problem..
am i forced to do a format to fix this??

im now copying files off the drive to prepare for wiping it..
but it wont stop beeping as im doing this.. im about to open up the mdd to yank the speaker wire off the connector just to shut it the hell up

is this the mysterious error that is caused eventually by having X + 9 on the same system?
im waiting for diehard to show up and say i told you so!

I think you should try other tools before giving up. Techtool Pro was able to fix a lot of things in my os9 partition and Diskwarrior did the rest of the job.

as u can tell from the pic

the problem is the b-tree catalog "keys out of order"

if u google b-tree catalog keys out of order u get alot of other people with the same problem
diehard has encountered this problem many times and says the only way to avoid it is to not have any verison of X on any partition on the G4....

the other posts all say i need to reformat and reinstall and that this problem cant be fixed..
i dont understand how its such an extreme problem that 'cant be fixed by disk first aid'

even disk warrior 2.1 says "the disk is too damaged"

I still think it's worth to try it before cleaning all your drive. It could fix most of my HD problems and Diskwarrior did the rest of the job.

It started to happen here as well, but I don't have OS X installed anywhere.

Chris, I never got that error from a Dual boot G4...

The usual OS X (mostly Tiger 10.4) generated Btree error is
Quote
Invalid Btree Header, 0, 0
, where OS X starts writing directory information that OS 9 does not understand (and thus the OS 9 version of Disk first Aid).

From Apple Support Forum...
Quote
the directory problems you're having stem from using a non-Tiger version of Disk Utility on a Tiger volume to Repair Disk. (Running DW v3.0.2 may not have been a good thing, either.) This is a no-no, per Apple. You should only use a Tiger (or OS X 10.3.9) version of DU to run repairs on a Tiger volume, due to the "extended attributes" enabled with Tiger.

I am totally stumped with this "Keys out of Order" error... never saw it... ever in 15 years on any Volume

And the funny part is, we both got that at the same time.
