Can we vote for more than one option? ;)
(That answer would be NO.)
Thanks Mat!
-
There's currently a 50-50 split (of the 2 votes total) between the 2 options I like the most.
I'm glad I already have a mini and will not be writing a 8-page essay on this no matter what option wins.
-
Maybe we should all write 8 page essays and submit them
so DieHard would have something to do. ;) (Or Mat?)
"No good deed goes unpunished" you know?
But seriously, quite nice of both of them.
(Essays could be fun.) "What I Did On My Summer Vacation"

How about giving it to the person coding a 9.3.4 update for Classilla?
Uh? No one?
Ok ... ;-)

They look so pretty, a note to self... don't be a hoarder... get them done and say goodbye to each one :(
It's so hard to let your children go...sigh

I am all for the lottery idea. But personally, I have never won a single lottery item in any form--not state ones, not fan page ones, not a single one in my 51 years of life.

Code Competion!!
Like 8-bit MSX guys does: https://www.msxdev.org/
But not only games, just anything programs, even demos.
I have been impressed how that kind of competitions push the limits of hardware.
-
Cool. Count me out, I have way too many Macs LOL
But I bet someone would really appreciate it, it is very cool.
Thanks Matt!

So the winner is?. . . . . . .

I can see I'm not the only one checking this thread regularly. :-D
Trying out OS9 on a Mac Mini would be very nice indeed ...

Hey to all from Christchurch, New Zealand!
Ok, here goes... I am hoping that it does not sound like l am playing the sympathy card, absolutely not my intention!
I am a disabled guy in a wheelchair after a climbing accident some years ago. Apple Macs saved me, Before the change in lifestyle, l played many instruments, wrote a lot of music & played in a few bands. Things looked pretty bleak.
Then l got a Mac Plus, l found a way to use it without needing hands.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DefqulBLoGE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DefqulBLoGE)
Suddenly l could make music again. It pulled me out of a dark place. Time, hardware and software has moved ahead big time as you all know. And making music is so much easier for me now.
Turns out that older machines with OS 9 and older versions of software like Pro Tools etc are better for music making than the latest ones. Things like lower latency, software that runs smooth as silk. A confirmation that Classic Macs are proven, tried and tested, rock-solid.
Why many of us are here.
I have many older song files from my early days, that have been gathering "digital dust" as l have moved on to the more advanced abilities of newer machines & software.
So why would l want or need a Mac running OS 9?
It would be wonderful to have a dedicated Mac running OS 9 to allow me to easily resurrect my songs from the early days.
Yes, the wonderful emulation software that Mac OS 9 Live has given us here is a way to achieve this. So, l merely put this forward for others to judge.
Cheers,
David :) :)

Here's why I should get it.
Because I said so? Does that count? Or because I actually think it should go to Torvan?
-
I only use OS8.6 and below so I'm good over here -afro-

Is there a screen shot of what this Mac Mini looks like as well as some details such as RAM and Storage size of the disk and speed of that disk ?
Excuse me for the dumb questions but I've only had desk top computers .
-
Is this a trick question?
Minis won't boot into OS9, and only very early, G4 ones, will run OS9 applications in Classic mode:

addendum:
Well I don't need this Mini, my MDD is working fine still, every day - but my wife's Performa 160 is creaking a bit, - though how she would get her Personal LaserWriter 320 to work on this Mini, I don't know. It only uses LocalTalk printer connection boxes!

there are no different models of the macmini, only one - and they all run the same version of OS9.

Are there really people out there still that don't know ?

Not me. Although I don't have Mini, shipping cost from USA Ca to outside of US is quite lot and over and I have to pay VAT also.

it could be worse. i recently met somebody who refused to accept that there is a mini with G4 processor. even after i told him that i own 4 of them he still tried to explain me that they dont exist.

Lol I think the postage to South Africa from California would cost more than a used one here...but let me check.
The exchange rate has gone to 20:1 on my currency since the coronavirus...
-
Ok so here is my sob story and why I would love one!
I have been in stage 3 Kidney failure for 8 years waiting on transplant.
In 2018 I started passing out while working and had to close my shop.
I had several very large CNC machines (Milltronics RH30) I had to sell my CNC worth 180K for 50K to pay for medical help to stay alive. My CNC mill had a Mac Mini G4 attached to the control center at the machine so that drawings could be opened changed and loaded directly into the mill.
I am doing better and have started to build my own small CNC out of a Harbor Freight Mill Drill and GRBL. I have the DRO and the GRBL setup but when I tried to boot my Mac Mini I found that it had died during the interim.
So I am in need of another Mini to feed the GRBL.
I am now 2 years without any income and have run out of savings.
My first date to apply for Social Security was March 15 2020 so I hired an attorney on March 12 2020.
They shuttered for Covid 19 before the process started, so I have to wait for them to reopen.
I did not get any stimulus check and doubt that I will.
I will use the Mac Mini to run the Mill and work in my home garage to rebuild.
One of the first projects on the new CNC is bracket systems for installing SBC PI variants into Mac Classic cases.
Another project is Cooling Blocks to replace failed G5 water coolers.
I could really use the Mini.

When I was in High School and into College I was a huge mac fan. I had macs from the 512k to the Power Mag Beige G3 by the time I got Married. Unfortunatly before I got married my future wife said I had to let go of most of them. I had 35 Macs at that point and I kept 5 and gave away or sold the rest. Now I have twin 6 year old daughters and they both love my wife's old blueberry iMac but they fight about it all the time they love that old mac. I am hoping I can use this to help keep them interested in old macs like I still do.

Ouch Nick, ouch! When I left SA in 2002 the rate was around 10:1.
