Ok, so this is a bit of an odd issue. All of a sudden one day, whenever I'd open up the system profiler in Mac OS 9, it hard locks the system. I have done a few tests and it looks to be an issue with an extension or a control panel, as when I boot up with extensions off it doesn't lock up the system.
What is the best way to figure out the offensive extension? I have Conflict Catcher, so enabling/disabling extensions manually isn't too hard, but I would be interested if there was a way I could do this automatically.

the fastest path is to remove everything third party and then perform trial and error using an arbitrarily chosen 50% of that to isolate the bad boy.

Ok, thank you! Is there any way to streamline the process with CC or should I stick to manually doing it?

i cant tell you offhand if it is faster to debug. try it, if you dont get a result, go back to ยง1 ;)

Well, I found the culprit: the CD/DVD extensions. I know the reason for this too, it's because I installed an HP DVD burner to replace my failing Pioneer drive. The HP never worked right in OS X and I thought it was working fine in OS 9, but I guess not.
I know what I'm buying next for my Power Mac ;)
