I knew I had some info on what to do when upgrading a Plus and SE. I just didn't know where. But I've looked and found it. This is from an old usenet discussion. I have not double-checked it, but it sounds reasonable.

Look for the resistor at R35. If you want to upgrade to 4 MB, you ought to remove it. If you just want to upgrade the SE to 2 MB, it has to be moved a row to R36.

oh that's great news!   so yes i'll bring this in to my guy to have the operation done.

would it hurt it to try?  or just not work properly?

I couldn't get a SCSI drive to work on the system..  unfortunately until i get the floppy drive working again this unit is not not going to be all that useful.. thankfully it sounds like it's a common issue so i'm optimistic once i can open it up.

Thanks,
Caleb
