In terms of transparency on my part, every feature that the forum used to have that we don't see any need for is one thing less to put on my "to-do" list, so to say. That's why I'm trying to figure out what has some ground to stand on in terms of users using the feature, if you know what I mean :)

When the "Like" button helps to highlight messages for any reason, that's good.

An idea for the future, it would not be bad to highlight messages that helped to solve the issue of the topic starter. When such a message rises to the top and stands out, it helps people with the same question to find the answer right away, rather than carefully look through several pages of the discussion.

I think the like button is a good idea, it simplifies and declutters threads. Without a like button you have to comment to show appreciation even if you don't have anything to add to the discussion. I personally don't see much of a difference between a bunch of likes or a bunch of short "thanks" and "I agree" posts, but likes at the bottom of a post are less messy and more concise than a bunch of short comments.

I think the like button might also increase engagement with threads. If someone has nothing to add to the thread but still wants to show some kind of appreciation they're more likely to hit a like button than they are to make a post for just a couple words. A like is better than no engagement at all.
