Title: usb -> serial adapters

these all make reference to osx but i cant find any that make reference to os9 compatibility or drivers.

Beware, as far as I know, mostly don't work with Mac Serial to Midi devices due lack of source power (+5v if I remember well)

i think the 256 is usb only?

the ux96 seems to be rare now that its discontinued..then again, most of this stuff is;)

UX256 is almost the same as the UX96. USB only. Rare...but not impossible to find.

It appears that later versions only supported OS X, but earlier versions also included support for Apple MacOS 8.6 or later ...

Also, it says "No need for an external power adapter: draws power directly from your computer via the USB connection" - which I think should solve the power issue mentioned by MacTron.

So it *appears* this is a good solution, but would be great to get a second opinion if anyone can positively confirm.

I have discussed this at length here many times. Assuming you want to use your Lombard for MIDI, the USA-19 will NOT work…period.
You need to restore the mini-DIN serial modem/printer port and connect an external serial-to-MIDI interface.

The model you want is no longer made. You'll have to find in on fleabay or such. Fortunately, they pop up fairly often.
You need the Keyspan USA-28X A…G.
That means it must have the "X" There is also a USA-28 (no "X") that won't work.
The last letter, A thru G is less important. Any one will work.

Do your self a favor and search "Keyspan" and/or "USA-28" here, then absorb everything you read on the subject.

- Keyspan USA-28X
- Keyspan USA-28X (A - G)

As it happens, there's a new Keyspan USA-28X for sale right now (including the install CD-ROM), so I should probably jump on that post haste.

FWIW I'm actually looking to connect a Yamaha QY100 to the PowerBook for doing a bulk dump of song data (connected via serial port on the QY100). I'm not sure if this uses MIDI or not (so perhaps the USA-19HS would still work), but I'll play it safe and go with the USA-28X.
