Title: Looking for Waves 4.0 TDM!
Post by: Knezzen on May 05, 2014, 05:06:12 AM
Since we decided to go with Mac OS 9.2.2 and Pro Tools 5.1.3 in the studio im looking for the last version of Waves TDM for Mac OS 9.

Is version 4 the last? Does anyone have it?

Thanks! :)

Anyone?

Found these: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/waves-40-waves-au-shell-101 on Macintosh Garden, but they are OSX only.
They wont load in Pro Tools 5.1.3cs11 running on Mac OS 9. Too bad, because there seems to be a TDM version in the package.

There at least WAS a Waves 4.0 for Mac OS 9. Taken from the Waves site from 2003 (http://web.archive.org/web/20030729195553/http://waves.com/)

According to Waves 4.0 manual:

The Waves version 4.0 plug-ins support major Plug-In architectures and host
applications as follows :

MAC OS-9

WaveShell-DAE 4.0_9 - Provides compatibility with Digidesign systems from
Pro-Tools Free, through native power driven Pro-Tools LE and all the way to Pro-
Tools TDM using the MIX hardware generation or the new HD systems.
WaveShell-DAE integrates support for Digidesign’s 3 different plug-in types –
TDM, RTAS and AudioSuite. Waves users with Digidesign systems can read
important information in the DAE chapter.

WaveShell-VST 4.0_9 – Provides compatibility with some of the leading VST
host applications. Officially supported are –
Steinberg Cubase VST 5, NUENDO 1.5 | Emagic Logic Audio 4.7 | TC-Works
SPARK 2.0.| Bias Peak 2.62, V-Box 1.01, Deck 3 | Prosoniq – SonicWORX 2.
WaveShell-MAS 4.0_9 – Provides compatibility with MOTU – Digital Performer
2.72 and later and AudioDesk 1.02.

MAC OS-X

WaveShell-DAE 4.0_X - Provides compatibility with Digidesign systems from
Pro-Tools LE and all the way to Pro-Tools TDM using the MIX hardware
generation or HD systems.

WaveShell-DAE integrates support for Digidesign’s 3 different plug-in types –
TDM, RTAS and AudioSuite. Waves users with Digidesign systems can read
important information in the DAE chapter.

WaveShell-VST 4.0_X – Provides compatibility with some of the leading VST
host applications. Officially supported are –
Steinberg Cubase SX 1.05 | TC-Works SPARK 2.0.| Bias Peak 3, V-Box 1.01,
Deck 3.

So the first question is where to find Waves 4.0 for Mac Os 9. And the second question will be: How we can do with iLok authorization?  :(

There is a trial resetter for Waves 4.0 for Mac OS X at least.
Otherwise I could pretty much buy it if it wont work ;)

Interestingly enough it seems like I have Waves 4.0 RTAS and TDM in a sit file on my system! Wonderful!

Will try it out now and keep everyone posted :)

Typically I seem to have the Gold Bundle (all the Waves plugins), but they won't load since I don't have the file "WavesLib 4.0_9". Bleh.
Tried using the same file from the OSX version (since it's carbon, I figured it might work), but no. Renamed 4.0_X to 4.0_9, but to no use.

Guess I'm stuck with Waves 3 for a little while longer.

Can upload it to disk. However, it's the trial version for 15 days. you have to reset the trial counter by parallel-loading into OS X and running special tool (Ilok trial reset) after trial expiration (every 15 days - above). I can also upload it. it also works magic for sonnox stuff (same eternal trial trick).

same eternal trial trick

I'm all for tricks!! ;D That certainly would be interesting to try! The whole OS9-X crossover period sure can get confusing and I'm continually surprised when stuff like this pops up!!

The trial reset can be done in Mac Os 9 too, without the need of an Os X installation.

Using InterLok Engine v 5.0.5 it is really easy to reset the counter:

Delete the content of "HFSExtentTables" folder inside "TheVolumeSettingsFolder" (this folders and files are invisibles). And perform a Desktop rebuild.

mediafire is a great site to use to upload such cd images,
this gives our admins + our users access to the files at the same time..
plus no need to wait for anyone to upload it
admins will backup whatever important images on our own fileserver for safe keeping.

Title: Re: Looking for Waves 4.0 TDM!
Post by: SpiritFlight on February 28, 2016, 03:35:59 PM
Well, the Waves 5 Plugins will work if you have a dongle to authorize them.

The utility that resets the Waves 5 demo period will only work up to System 10.3. Waves will not work in demo mode on Mac OS 10.4 Tiger. Versions prior to Mac OS X 10.3 should be fine. I had to downgrade the OS on my laptop from 10.4 to 10.3. Once I did that, the Waves 5 Demo worked beautifully and the reset utility works too.

Peace

I have wave 5.0 working in Tiger.

which version do you have exactly ?
I didn't know the 10.3 limitation.

Hey Vespertine, I guess what you don't know won't hurt you... ha ha. Well that has been my experience any way. So you have waves working in ""Demo Mode"" on Tiger?

I did do an archive and install when I downgraded from OS from 10.4 to 10.3. It could very easily be the case that something in the old system was conflicting and keeping the Waves 4 or 5 Demo from resetting.

I just use this computer for recording. Is there any good reason to upgrade back to Tiger? Right now everything is working!

Peace,
Steffan

hmm are u sure?
is it in TDM version only though?
does it work with waves 3.2 non-tdm version??

i thought the version 3.0 c1 compression had a bug preventing proper sidechaining from working

I am bumping this in an attempt to find an answer as to whether anything came of this???  ???

I came to the conclusion that this thread and its original question/request never got properly resolved.  Several things were offered for download but to my knowledge the actual full version of Waves 4 was never produced.

Is resetting the trial version the only solution achieved on this matter?

AFAIK, I use Waves TDM plugins in the eternal and everlasting trial reset mode. No probs. MacOs 9, PT 5.1.3.
I had already uploaded my archive with comments years ago (to ADrive as I remember).
Have never received any response regarding it.

Hi, I'm running Waves 5.0 C1 Compressor in demo mode in Logic Pro on my Mac G5 OSX 10.4.11 (no iLok required). Had to reinstall the C1 after replacing a faulty Mac HD, but after re-installing the C1 re-authorization is now impossible - Waves Tech Support can't help, demo is about to expire.

Any help will be much appreciated!  :D  Thank you. Best, Dave

I thought that era was iLok ?

Was the original authorization a "challenge" then "response" ?

The OSX Version of the ASR would most likely have preserved it on the old HD :(

Try the "freezer" hard drive trick and clone it

About 30 to 40% of the time, put a "bad" hard drive in the freezer (for about 45 min) and if you continue to put ice packs on it as it is connected to the computer you can usually clone it, the cold contracts the metal and thus if it's a motor spin up issue (and some other issues)... these guys say it no longer works...
https://www.pcworld.com/article/419677/that-old-freezer-trick-to-save-a-hard-drive-doesnt-work-anymore.html

But I have taken modern (spinning) drives and have had success about 3 out of 10, at least enough to get most of the data.

Also, this video is pretty much the exact method we use here if we hear an "attempted spin up" and we remove the cover...

Thanks DieHard.

>I thought that era was iLok ?
Waves switched to the iLok hardware key shortly after I bought the Waves 5.0 C1 compressor in 2008.

>Was the original authorization a "challenge" then "response" ?
Yes. I still have the challenge code, but Waves Tech Support say they're unable to generate a response as they've abandoned the PACE authorization system used in 2008 and have no other means to authorize the software.

The OSX Version of the ASR would most likely have preserved it on the old HD :(
>What does 'ASR' mean please, and where would I look for it? Actually I can still read a bunch of Waves files from the old faulty HD, which we managed to transfer and then successfully re-install the C1. Sadly, it timed out after 14 days :{

Try the "freezer" hard drive trick and clone it

ASR is the command-line Apple Software Restore tool.
[blockquote]DESCRIPTION
asr efficiently copies disk images onto volumes, either directly or via a
multicast network stream.  asr can also accurately clone volumes without
the use of an intermediate disk image.[/blockquote]

About 30 to 40% of the time, put a "bad" hard drive in the freezer (for about 45 min) and if you continue to put ice packs on it as it is connected to the computer you can usually clone it, the cold contracts the metal and thus if it's a motor spin up issue (and some other issues)... these guys say it no longer works...

But I have taken modern (spinning) drives and have had success about 3 out of 10, at least enough to get most of the data.
I think for a long time, the drives were designed so that the heads "parked" on the surface, which led to the problem of stiction (the platters can't spin if the heads are sticking to them). Freezing was a way to un-stick the heads (also tapping with a mallet). On newer drives I've seen inside there is a plastic ramp that loads/unloads the heads and they don't touch the surface. Sometimes it's this plastic ramp that is sticky or bent preventing head load (but the platters still spin up).

Title: Re: Looking for Waves 4.0 TDM!
Post by: IIO on February 14, 2024, 11:45:40 AM
the "issue" with waybackmachine is that once you have closed the history toolbar on top, you can not open it again to switch to another version.

and then there is that inline version of the toolbar, which you get when you start at the startpage:

go to https://web.archive.org/ and enter "http://waves.com/"

from here you can now see and open all existing versions of an adress or url.

but to open a version in a new tab - without loosing the overview page, that is - you need to control-doubleclick in the calendar. (everything else will not work in firefox windows here)
