Title: M-AUDIO DELTA 1010LT drivers for OS9 [Power Mac G4]
Post by: belzrebuth on May 27, 2018, 12:58:26 PM
Hi all,
I have a m-audio 2496 interface on my G4 working okay so far but I've found a Delta 1010LT and thinking it's going to be a nice upgrade since I can record my mixers group outs directly on the computer..
I'm using the 2496 to record the main stereo track from my mixer.
Anyways, are there any drivers avalaible for this card here?
I found the drivers for the 2496 thru this thread http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,362.0.html.
For the 1010 I found this :
http://www.m-audio.com/support/download/drivers/delta-osx-2.0.8
But OS9 is not listed there..

Haven't tried the drivers yet; I'll post back when I pickup the card.
Can these be linked under 0S9?
I've read that you can use more than one to double the I/O ports..
Has anyone have actual experience with such a setup?

you can link up to 4 1010s, but only the "normal" ones, not the protools models. no idea how it works but i think each unit requires a PCI card.

Which one is the ProTools model?

I'm about to get the 1010LT..
I've found an article online claiming 2 or more card can be chained by connecting the s/pdif out of the one that will act as the master to the s/pdif in of the other acting as the slave.I suppose additional slave cards should be connected the same way (s/pdif out of the 1st slave to the s/pdif in of the 2nd slave etc).

The article suggest extra caution the cable; you need s/pdif 75ohm I think RG59 would work in this case.

Then you'll have to choose which is which from the supplied software.(the master syncs to its internal clock supplied by its own crystal and the slave(s) should lock to the master's clock)

It's supposed to be really easy but I don't really know if the OS9 drivers support it.
I've read that it's not working with Windows 7.
If anyone tried it please chime in.

I don't want to invest in a second unit only to find out it's not working..
It'd be really nice if you could chain these interfaces. For about 40-50€ a piece you could theoretically have 32 analog I/O at roughly 150€ which is a great bargain.
You would also have to get a couple of patchbays though because of these stupid RCAs but still a great deal.

I wonder if my G4 could handle processing that many channels..although I think I'll be fine with 16 for the time being.

i have no idea what he means by 'pro tools model'
the only thing i can think of is that avid bought m-audio but that was way after the os9 days were already over
so i think hes got his wires crossed  and i suggest u ignore the comment

i have 3 delta 1010LT cards of various revisions
if you need my help to test anything ive also got many g3s + g4s laying around

are u trying to link more than one Delta 1010? its very easy, u just use SPDIF cables between teh SPDIF i/o on the cards to ensure a proper sync.. or even better to use the Wordclock BNC cable

i remember i had 2-3 of them working with Ableton Live 4 in os9 back around the end of 2014 so yes it does work

i use an 8 channel cable snake that goes from RCA to 1/4" TS

I just brought the card home..!
Should I install it right away or first remove any existing m-audio drivers?

Which one is the ProTools model?

LT is also ok. protools means that some were sold with a versions protools which works with them. under protools linking them does not work (because the linking is done by the device driver.)

no idea about the functionality of SPDIF, more important is to attach them to the same clock. its own clock isnt thee best one, so you might want to add an external clock someday later. :)

theres different revisions of the card.. it was revised a 3rd time to update the pci spec to be 3.3 volt compatible (ie working in powermac g5)
there is no protools version
pro tools m-powered software works with all revisions of the card but that software is for osx 10.4+

I installed the card; used the drivers from the m-audio website..
It was trickier to get it working than my AP2496.
I had to reinstall twice and manually place the ASIO file in the Ableton resources folder..
For some reason the auto-configure app on the ASIO folder did not work..(the one you drag the ASIO driver file on and places it where it needs to be)
Also, on the OMS setup the card was showing as AP2496 2 (same hardware maybe?); I had to make the program auto-search more than once to find the 1010LT and that was after I deleted the 2496..

At one point I thought that maybe I should reinstall the whole OS and start clean but eventually I got sound and midi.

I still think that I should've properly removed everything m-audio before installing the new card.
I'm not sure if everything is set 100% correctly as the whole thing should be seamless; not the mess I've went through :P

if it shows ap2496 then you are using the wrong driver files
but the ap2496 is still compatible to be linked with the delta 1010(LT)
but it only offers less channels obviously

i posted a link to the m-audio drivers that i archived a few years ago from the japanese website before it was taken down following suit with the american site being altered + taken down

theres many different versions of the delta1010 drivers.. like between 5-10 versions
i have a 500mb usb stick that has all the different drivers archived on it

like i said i have 2-3 delta 1010 cards i can try to help u find the right files if i can find the time

Is there any way to remove every driver file and start again?
I know it sound dumb but deleting every single driver file seems like a chore..

If all the driver files are going to the same destination(s) perhaps the installation wizard automatically replaces them with each new install but I don't think I've removed everything from the previous AP192 install.

One thing that puzzled me is why at the OMS setup there is a synth keys icon connected to the Delta 1010 icon?
Shouldn't the midi interface icon be blank with nothing connected to it?

I'll try the drivers you've uploaded; I also have the driver disk supplied with my card and tried that too but it doesn't create the ASIO folder on my desktop like the downloaded driver from M-AUDIO's site does.
BTW the card is rev.C with two notches on the PCI connector.
How many revisions were there?
Thanks for your help so far.

rev C is the most recent revision as far as i know there were only three revisions of the 1010LT
not sure about the original 1010 but its most likely 3-4 it was released aroun 1999 and the LT came out around 2001 2002 i think

its a pain in the ass to put the asio file everywhere yes.. not only that but theres multiple versions of asio driver files on some of the drivers.. some of which were designed to go with specific apps so its really confusing to those who didnt read the news/updates from m-audio which explained what file was what etc

i would try to get the date of the driver file (from the file date)
and then use the wayback machine to cross reference their site looking for info on which file is what
i have posted alot of that info here on the macos9lives site.. so if u dig u can find it
each driver file was remarked with comments on the m-audio/midiman websites to tell which asio file was for what
etc

the last time i was looking at the info u need
i think was when i responded to Dr bU's request for the proper driver for his ap2496

I've aquired a second 1010LT today so I can chain both which gives me 16ch of analog I/O.
I've also got a 75ohm S/PDIF cable with rca connectors so I can clock the slave to the master.
I've read that the master should be the one installed in the lower PCI slot.
Is this info valid?
I thought that the master should be at the first PCI slot..
I've read two different opinions about it although the lower PCI opinion seems to be coming from M-AUDIO and specifically concerns a MAC setup.
I've also read that you can sync them with BNC using Word Clock.
That seems a better way but I'm not sure if it really matters and I probably don't have any way to test which configuration is more stable.(provided that both methods work of course)

Here I've read that if you're on a MAC you have to use the one on the lower PCI slot as the master.
On this thread there also people claiming that they've succesfully tried the BNC sync method.
http://forum.cakewalk.com/running-two-M-Audio-delta-101039s-m421139.aspx

And here someone recommends to use the first one as the master (although this is a linux setup)
http://bandshed.net/forum/index.php?topic=1208.0

Anybody has experience with a dual 1010 setup on a OS9 machine?

i am not sure if it is required, but it might be that the order of initialisation can have influence. however, in case it matters, you can just switch the breakout cable, dont you :)

I've already configured it that way.
The lower card is the master.
But the analog inputs 1-8 are those of the slave (upper) card..I'm not really sure if mac os really "sees the lower cards first" since the port numbering is the other way around.

My main problem is that I get no output master audio from either card. ???
------------------------------------------------------
The instructions from M-AUDIO are as follows :
------------------------------------------------------

Q: How do I configure Multiple Delta Series cards to run together?
A:
- You will need a 75 Ohm S/PDIF COAX Digital Audio cable for the external synchronization.
- Define one of the Delta Series cards as the card running in Word Clock Master mode. Best would be to choose the card that doesn't share an Interrupt (IRQ) with any other device (check the Device Manager for IRQ sharing). When using a Macintosh Computer running MacOS 9, choose the card in the lowest PCI slot as the Word Clock Master. (Delta Multi-card setups are not yet supported in MacOS X).
- Set the selected Word Clock Master card to "Internal Xtal" in the Delta Control Panel's "Hardware Settings" tab. In the Patchbay/Router tab, set this card to "Monitor Mixer" for the "HW Out S/PDIF". Activate "Single and in sync".
- Connect the digital output of this card with the digital input of the second Delta Series card. Set the Master Clock of the second card to S/PDIF ("Hardware Settings" in the Delta Control Panel). Activate Multicard Mode.
- If you are using three Delta Series cards, the second card should also be set to "HW Out S/PDIF" for the "Monitor Mixer" in the Patchbay/Router tab.
Make the same settings for Delta card #3 and # 4.

If Delta Audiophile 192 card is part of your setup, make sure to use this card as the last device in the synchronization chain.

The Operating Systems Windows 2000/XP support "KernelSync" and do not necessarily need the external connection using S/PDIF. Delta 44 can only be stacked in these Operating Systems, since this card does not have a S/PDIF connector. For this type of Operation, all cards have to be set to "Multiple Card Sync".

-----------------------------------------------------

One other thing is that this step:

" In the Patchbay/Router tab, set this card to "Monitor Mixer" for the "HW Out S/PDIF". Activate "Single and in sync".  "
I can't find any " single and sync " option on the Delta Control Panel.
I've only set to the "Monitor Mixer" for the "HW Out S/PDIF" on the master card.
I suspect that the lack of Monitor OUT audio has something to do with this..
I'm using Ableton Live btw..
My plan is to have some outboard synths patched to 16 analog inputs and be able to record them simultaneously while monitoring the master stereo mix thru a pair of Delta outputs connected to my monitors.

Should the Master Out  output from the the slave card since I'm setting monitor on the master to S/PDIF ?

I'm sorry If I don't make any sense but this is all really confusing to me..

I'm used to RMEs excellent TotalMix. The Delta Control Panel is really badly implemented IMO..

EDIT :I eventually got audio output from outputs 11/12 (on the master card) so those would correspond to 1/2 outs on the first card (which is the slave).
I'd really like a way to get the numbering right while keeping the low PCI card the master as per M-AUDIOs' instuctions.

Anyway, I'll try some things and report back on how things work..

are u able to post screenshot of your settings in the driver popup ?
i remember ableton live v4.14's midi + audio settings are kinda strange u have to click certain things on and certain things off? an image would help

do it step by step. does it work for you to use one card? (turn the other one off to test)

I have master audio out now.
I've edited my post above yesterday!
I really don't know what changed but I restarted Ableton and then set my Master to 11/12 and I got output..

I still need to see how low I can get my latency settings without clicking etc but I think I'm set for now.

I haven't tried if all the other outputs are working yet but I hope so..
