Title: issues with the "Logic Anthology"
Post by: macStuff on December 12, 2018, 03:44:41 PM
i hate to do this but i have to say that from the getgo the packaging + handling of this "anthology" was a bad idea + was very poorly handled
rather than packaging them as individual v1, v2, v3 installs etc

1st issue:
the dongle emulator is not included in the anthology download so far
at least its not in the v1, v2, v3, or v4 portions of which, which ive checked just today... dongle emulator? nope
im trying to run v2.5 of logic an on old mac, can someone please stuff + attach the dongle emulator file?

2nd issue:
to extract the files properl, you have to rename the files because the files have been veyr sloppily macbinary'd twice,
which means to extract them the files have to be decryped more than once, which creates a filename collision, most people
would not understand whats going on and would think the files just dont work..so whoever packaged this.. you get a big F for FAIL

3rd issue:
none of the  .img files are able to be opened on a machine running system 7 (which would be the machines that would want to run logic v1,v2,v3)
the disk images .img files are not able to be opened with disk copy, it throws an error saying "the mount image operation did not complete"
so only people with advanced networking multi-mac setups would be able to successfully install the software the way it is packaged now..
and even those people would struggle. because of the way in which it was packaged.

the GOOD NEWS however is that ALLL OF THIS IS EASILY FIXABLE

its really aggravating though because these files literally cannot be extracted without a system with os9.1+ to use the MOST RECENT version of disk copy..
when they could have been easily packaged using Disk Copy 4.2 and worked just the same for anyone using system 7

does anyone know any workaround for opening an NDIF .img that gives the message "requires macos9.1+" ??????? on a system lower than 9.1? (8.6, 7.5.5?)

The files were made on OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard with DropDMG to be stored on a Networked Server.
intended to be file shared or Copied to USB thumb drive to a MDD G4 running OS 9.2.2 ProTools TDM Rig.

i know this because I made them..... 8) lol

I could make other versions but I only have a G4 MDD OS 9.2.2
Any suggestions?

i will eventually repackage them for os7+os8 users interested in the early versions
as it is now its basically impossible without jumping thru a bunch of hoops
it could easily (or not so easily?) be packaged in a way that would allow someone on a os7.5.5 machine
like i was to be able to load up logic1,2,3

quite some time ago i made a post about packaging files here:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=1223.0

i use a combination of a program called "DropDMG" to create macos9 .img files and then "macbinary" them
this can easily be done on any modern version of osx and makes the file 100% backward compatible
no de-stuffing required + therefore no stuffit version mismatch bullshit

my technique i fully outlined in the linked post
