Title: OMS and my increasingly problematic 2496
Post by: revel8or on March 06, 2016, 02:22:45 PM
Hey all.

I've tried a bunch of things to get this stuff to work correctly.  I haven't moved the 2496 into a different computer, yet, but at some point, something *should* have worked...

MacOS9Lives did a wonderful service in providing a complete cubase restore - and it seemed that it would have fit my system perfectly.  And it probably should have.  It didn't work as it wouldn't allow any sounds to play through the 2496.  Eventually, it did play system sounds, but only after much manipulation.

In an effort to get this to work, fluidly, I started over with a fresh 9.2.2 installation with cubase vst 32 5.1 as a host.  The order of installation of the programs was this:

9.2.2
Delta 2496 drivers
OMS drivers
Cubase

So, when I run OMS, as Cubase instructs, it refuses to "see" the 2496.  I checked the OMS manual, and it seems that it should come back with some sort of clue as to what's going on, but it does not.  It acts as if the 2496 isn't there.

And, btw, when I did the DAW-in-a-box installation, immediately, I added Unitor 8 drivers and it seemed to work great.  If OMS is the generic midi ox for the Mac, then it doesn't seem that it's the Mac's fault, here.

Other than my obsession over a somewhat redundant piece of gear, what the heck is wrong??

You're right…this seems to be turning into an obsession.

One question… Have you tried placing the 2496 into your Studio Setup manually, rather than just trying to get OMS to do it automatically?

OK.. I'll lay out some steps, please ignore anything that is obvious to you...

1. Install Mac OS 9.2.2
2. Turn off Virtual Memory in OS 9 and turn off appletalk (via "Chooser") in OS 9
3. Install 2496 Software Version 2 as previously mentioned (version 3 has a MIDI bug and MIDI does not work)
4. Install OMS and do NOT check any options, the 2496 should automatically be seen, pick any keyboard controller from the list (like Roland PC200) and check MIDI in/out
5. Install Cubase
6. Manually copy the ASIO file into Cubase/ASIO
7. Start Cubase and go to "Options" "Audio Setup" "System" and select the 2496 from the "Asio Device" pull down menu
8. go to "Options" "MIDI Setup" and select "OMS In/OUT" and also check every item listed under MIDI input from

Thank you, DieHard.  Again, operator error.  I was looking for an OMS v. 2, instead of an Audiophile v2.  I'll get on it in a few days - I have developed a dental issue that involves a root canal.  It hurts, and pain is my primary motivator to avoid all things that increase the blood flow to my head as it makes my jaw throb.

:)

Thanks again, and I'll post results in a few days.
