Title: Oops, where does that one go to?
Post by: Bolkonskij on February 18, 2022, 10:17:34 PM
After opening up my Mac Mini G4 and reassembling it I noticed one leftover part that looks like a copper (?) clamp of some sort. Came out after I turned the Mini to put the top back on.

Anyone know where that one goes to? Seems to be helping in holding something in place.

Here's a photo: (Classilla compatible)

It's a lightning rod.   ;)

Haha, awesome! Thank you very much! I was able to put it back in, still no idea about the purpose but for god's sake, it's complete again :-)

Is it me or does the Mini run much quieter with the top off? (better cooling?)

still no idea about the purpose……
That is very probably a ground "clip" that grounds the removable top/back to the chassis for EM shielding.
It likely contacts an inner foil or similar shield inside the cover when the cover is attached.
The fact that it's copper is the clue.
