Title: I have decided it is time to move on to newer things
Post by: RTIInstaller on June 22, 2017, 11:51:16 PM
I really love my OS9 Rig But have been increasingly missing out on opportunities because I have been tethered to, two hundred plus pounds of hardware. Along with the problem of there being no simple way to share projects back and forth with others working on newer systems.

So I went out and bought a mid 2014 MBP 2.8 ghz quad core with 16 gigs of ram, with internal and external SSD Drives. A thunderbolt UAD II Apollo 8 and a TB UAD II OCTO Satellite along with a pile of plugins to go with it and put all of that into a Gator porta studio rack bag that I modified a bit. And I have to say I could not be happier with it.

So now I am looking at my trusty old 5.1.3 G4 quick silver with dual 1080p monitor setup along with the loaded 7 slot Magma chassis, piles of Digi interface cables, Digi interfaces, Opcode Studio 4 interface etc.. that is now adorning my closet, wondering what the heck I am going to do with all that now.  :-\

Gotta do whatcha gotta do! ;D Glad your new system is working out... as fun as the old stuff can be, if you need to interchange your projects with newer systems there are those hoops you have to jump through!  ;D ;D

I may take you up on that offer -- Thanks.

I have 2 additional G4s available for parts as well.

My Magma chassis has
3 Mix Core Cards
2 Mix farm
2 DSP farm cards.

Curious if you've used any plugs that work on the older farm cards that won't work on the "Mix" version? I have a few things that don't work on Mix farm that might work with an older card that I've been curious about. Thought about picking up a pre 'mix' version to see if they'd work.

I have never had any trouble running any plugs on any of the cards in this system. I do know that only certain older DSP cards work and some don't, I do not remember the specific model numbers but these are the specific cards that do work.

I’ve recently setup up my os9 g4 and esi32 and got recycle working. I never used recycle back in the day. It’s a nice change for Ableton and Bitwig. Those machines were dormant for like 15 years. It’s been fun using them again.

alot of people do this type of thing;
i dont understand it really; especially when u can use an adat connection to pipe 8 channels of audio from os9 into a modern recording rig + use modern tech with vintage tech at the same time via standards that are still supported, adat, spdif, midi, analog audio, all of these things can be patched from old to new

Yeah. currently setting up a 'DAW farm' rig just to tie a bunch of stuff together. ;D
