Title: WD Green SSD 120gb in MDD 1.42Ghz Running 9.2.2 & Tiger
Post by: Jakl on April 18, 2019, 04:39:25 PM
Still trying to find a good but cheaper SSD that works straight of the box without
having to use an OWC SSD. Had small problems trying to get the Kingston A400
working off the Seritek esata card on the MDD but no problems with it on a
Pata to sata adapter after formatting it on a Mac pro.

Ordered a WD Green SSD 102gb for $39 from ebay to see if it is easier to get going.
See photo below.

Hooked it up my Seritek Card and it was recognised straight away.
Formatted in Apple partition Map with OS 9 drivers in a few seconds.
Partitoned in 2 - OSX4 and OS9.

Boot times on both SSD are around the same.
MacOSX.4 Tiger - 34-37 secs
MacOS9.2.2 - 42-45 secs

From Mactrons Quickbench 1.5
- Kingston A400 120gb speed was around 80mb/s using pata to sata adapter
- WD Green 120gb speed averaged around 90-95mb/s using seritek pci card

For me the only major difference was that it was more difficult to get the Kingston
A400 formatted out of the box on the MDD. Had to put it in a mac pro to get it
to format even.

If anyone has different results from my trials with these SSD drives I would really
like to know.

Thanks

I tried Kingston A400 , Patriot Burst and GoodRam cx400.
All of these SSD's were around 120GB.
I had no problem with format it on MDD when i attached it to the Pata->Sata , and my flashed Digitus PCI/Sata on OSX Tiger
https://www.digitus.info/de/produkte/computer-zubehoer-und-komponenten/computer-zubehoer/io-karten/ds-33101-1/?PL=pl

OS9 started from  SSD  without any issue.
