Post by: scouter on March 28, 2021, 05:39:26 PM
Hi, can anyone recommend a DVD writer upgrade that works with a G4 MDD 1.25 (2003) I need to able to write
DVD +R DL at faster speeds compatible with newer DVD +R DL disks.

Christopher.

Is there USB2.0 PCI-card that works with MDD with OSX? If there is then OWC Slim USB2 6xBDR/8x DVDRW+RT works. I have tested it with Powerbook G4 with USB2.0 PCMCIA card.
I think that there is also SATA version of that burner, but then you need SATA PCI-card. Both should burn even Blu-Ray disk with Disk Utility (is there any else Blu-Ray burn software for PPC), but not tested. It had better new disk support than Macbook Pro from 2008.

With my PM G4 MDD I still use an LG GSA 4163B Super-Multi - DVD±RW (+R DL) / DVD-RAM drive (IDE internal) that I have installed in a Firewire 400 case.
Many years ago I burned a lot of DVD+R DL discs with movies without any problem.
Surely it can be installed internally a G4.
