chipset appears to be a promise card

which is the same as a promise fast trak pci card
PC version was also called a Promise Ultra100 TX2

the last pic i found here shows "PDC20268M" on the chip the suffix M denoting its macintosh compatibility

also they haev literally put a sonnet sticker over the promise logo
2 firmware revisions retrieved + attached

ive also read that - unlike the ACARD chipset cards - the promise chipsets CAN + DO function at 66Mhz
(when inserted into the video slot of a pci graphics G3/G4)
i had discussed this possibility with pt5leguy years ago here but it didnt work out
now i see that it IS POSSIBLE as long as you use one of the promise cards; which were advertised to support 66Mhz operation - so if u have a pci graphics g3/g4 + a promise chipset based Ultra100/133 card - then its possible for you to get even more performance from the card then someone with an AGP graphics G4; something id love to test for myself eventually

I am sure, "M" has nothing to do with "Mac".
At begin the chips were flashed in he last minute and there was always a back-up plan to sell them on the PC market if the card does not sell well on the Mac.
These cards were if I recall green.
Later Sonnet asked Promise to have in their (purple) color.

Interesting and maybe they are right.
I just never paid attention to that. At the time of pre-production we just flashed what was available.
Later we did not follow up how these were marketed.
Since you have several legacy G4-s, would it be possible to test in a non-MDD Mac, does a PC-based (non-Mac) Promise PDC20268 / PDC20269 / PDC20270 show up in Open Firmware tree?
Here none of them shows up in my MDD (1 GHz dual, FW400 ports).
But no problem in a 2009 MacPro, via PCI to PCI-e adapter board.

i still have a bunch of these promise cards id like to use if i could get a driver to be able to use the unmodified pc card in a mac that would be of great value to me to put some stuff to use thats sitting collecting dust
