Title: afp share error / filename character limit?
Post by: supernova777 on July 10, 2014, 03:00:01 PM
im experiencing a wierd error whilst organizing files on my AFP fileserver using mac os 9
the error causes my afp fileshare mount to disconnect.. its not devastating but its a pain in the ass.. its happening after i try to move files.. i think the reason may be bcause of the filename length.

the files appear to end with a # sign and then 3 digits
like this: exampleLongfilen#123.jpg
with the proper extension in place.. but the ending of the name before the extension
shortened..

is there a fix for this? anyone familiar with this error?

heres some info im reviewing to find an answeR:
http://www.alex-castro.com/km/longnames.html

it is cutting off exactly at 31 characters including the "." and the file extension! so really 27 characters + . + 3 letter extension

i can open these files jsut fine but if i delete or move the file the AFP network connection will eject/dismount

Keep all files to the 31 Char limit for any file that will ever be accessed via OS 9... make more elaborate folder structures for organization
