Title: Minimum RAM nanosecond rating for SampleCell II PCI and Nubus
Post by: MacOS Plus on January 30, 2017, 11:25:15 AM
I own a couple of second-hand SampleCell II PCI cards.  In both cases the second bank of RAM got filled with incompatible SIMMs by whoever owned or sold them before.  I'm not taking anything for granted with what's on them so I need to know what the minimum nanosecond rating is for the 30-pin expansion SIMMs.  One of them had 70ns in Bank 1 and the other had 80ns.  If slow is fine then I won't waste my faster SIMMs on these cards since I have many other computers and other audio cards that can use them.

If anyone can remember back to the ancient Nubus SampleCell also, it would be appreciated.

I've read links 1, 2 and 4 and all the linked documentation.  No where can I find information about the nanosecond minimum.  The posting in link 4 has a broken link to an English copy of the SampleCell II manual.  I downloaded the French one anyway to see if the specs were in there but they don't seem to be either.  If anyone has the English version please post it.

I finally found a reference to the nanosecond requirement for PCI SCII at the following link:

http://www.proaudiosupport.com/a32982/specifications-for-samplecell-ii.html (http://www.proaudiosupport.com/a32982/specifications-for-samplecell-ii.html)

It calls for 70ns minimum.  Nubus has the same requirement:

http://archive.digidesign.com/support/propix/scNubus.html (http://archive.digidesign.com/support/propix/scNubus.html)

And one other important note about SIMM installation order:

Random piece of information.

The memory modules on these work on the Roland Sp700 and vice versa. I took 24Mb off one of my Samplecell pci cards to max out a Roland Sp700 to 32Mb.
