Acard 6293M - rare card combination of sata/esata/ata133
« on: July 10, 2014, 07:51:23 PM »

acard 6293m (2003-2004?)

just found these images and wanted to clear them off my drive
they were sent to me by a tech from ACARD who personally tested this device
their cards with "m" on the end all support mac, in both 9 + X for booting..

this card is of particular note to those who want to have external sata compatibility
i beleive its hotswappable under X but i could be wrong.. meaning that u can unplug
the esata drive and swap it for another without rebooting.

Rare? You can still buy it at several shops, …

This is a very good SATA card. I get 95 MB/s throughput inside my G4s at the PCI Bus with it. But beware it needs at least a PCI 2.2 Bus, that means it will work at Grey G3s and up without any problems. But the older PCI Macs like the 9600 with an PCI 2.0 Bus will not work (well). I needed several months to figure that out back than in 2006 when I got mine, as it is working inside the PCI 2.0 Busses but with many problems and system warning all the time about datalosses etc.

So it is perfect for G3s and G4s, and quite cheap. But if you like to upgrade an older Mac, get some Sonnet card.

the images above were created by the ACARD technician/sales rep guy Tim i think
because i had asked if the ide drives were also bootable and supported in mac os 9
even though none of the images he sent show any mac os 9 graphics
he had said he tested them and it worked 100% for boot

according to the distributor the stock is almost completely depleted on most of their PCI controllers for macs
the 6xxxm series
