I think the like button is a good idea, it simplifies and declutters threads. Without a like button you have to comment to show appreciation even if you don't have anything to add to the discussion. I personally don't see much of a difference between a bunch of likes or a bunch of short "thanks" and "I agree" posts, but likes at the bottom of a post are less messy and more concise than a bunch of short comments.

I think the like button might also increase engagement with threads. If someone has nothing to add to the thread but still wants to show some kind of appreciation they're more likely to hit a like button than they are to make a post for just a couple words. A like is better than no engagement at all.

The policy started right with this post and my conmiment to change them

http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=3047.0

But little to none links were changed.

I started posting videos on the "News" for every PowerPC or Mac OS9 thinking it were a safe place for them, and leaving the rest with minimum or none YT links.

Then another post that I cant find right now went more deeply on it (GaryN participated on it IIRC) and it was decided to mute/parse all YT links

i see no reason why it's a bad thing? sure let's have it. :)

I have no idea which policy you're referring to, but ALL plugins where disabled when the forum moved since it wouldn't run on newer server software with plugins enabled.
...

Protools5LEGuy; post a link to one of them so I can see what shortcode is used for the mini player so I can narrow it down to which plugin that generates them and I'll have a look.

The "no youtube " policy changed links and it is a hard work to see the video.

To insert a YT video you had to copy the number from the url, but that is the only thing that we see now.

You have to open a ramdom video on youtube, change tab, copy the number from the post, change tab and paste the number with precision. An amount of work that only a fistfull of users will do.

The button to insert youtube links was after the insert image link, insert hyperlink, insert mail and insert FTP link

Software / Re: Hellcats Over the pacific - on Mac OS 9.2.2
« Last post by bamdad on Today at 01:33:42 PM »
so after a few years and getting better acquainted with mac os 9 i'm pretty certain this is because of some backwards compatibility in the ROM was removed after 9.1 where hellcats atill works perfectly.
if only someone could help me in getting a 9.1 ROM working on my mac mini to test the theory..

When the "Like" button helps to highlight messages for any reason, that's good.

An idea for the future, it would not be bad to highlight messages that helped to solve the issue of the topic starter. When such a message rises to the top and stands out, it helps people with the same question to find the answer right away, rather than carefully look through several pages of the discussion.

Hardware / Re: AcBel PSU / Quicksilver

Thanks Jacques. Nice pics. A bit on the large size for those with smaller screens but quite clear.

And yes that one bulged capacitor is a definite candidate for replacement. And that might be all that’s necessary. Yet being the glutton for punishment that I am, while in there, I’d replace all of the Teapos. However if you would prefer to get “in and out” quickly, replace only the one. And depending on your preference and just how long you intend to keep that machine running, choose capacitors of your own preference. (Many will steadfastly recommend one brand over another, but do your own research and choosing here.) I have even used NTE brand capacitors, simply because they were readily available.

AND before even attempting a re-cap:

1. Research how to fully discharge capacitors before proceeding. You can get a very serious charge from those (especially the larger ones) that may electrocute you.

2. Did the erratic behavior with the 9200 gfx card NOT manifest itself with your previous card? Maybe  the demands of the 9200 are too great for the PSU in its’ current condition (as you suspect). So I guess the question is, do you really need to go with the 9200 when your previous card might have been acceptable?

3. If you do decide to replace capacitors, pay close attention to the positive and negative legs of the capacitors on the PCB. It’s quite easy to swap them and not discover this until afterwards.

4. Have you closely inspected the 9200 gfx card for any possible problems with it? Did it, or has it worked without problems in any other machine? I've had to replace capacitors on 9200 gfx cards themselves, before.

*And follow, don’t follow any of the above suggestions at your own risk.

There is a very trusted source for refurbishing PSUs on eBay that’s well known to members here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/141543772231? He also offers ATX PSU adapter cables if you might be interested in that option. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133346393458? AND if you contact him directly and mention that you’re a member of MacOS9Lives, he has offered us discounts in the past. [email protected] (Andy Cuffe)

I don’t doubt that you’re capable. Just wanted to make you aware of some other possibilities & options.
It can be extremely frustrating to go through an entire recap only to find that it didn't work. (This does happen.)
And I don't think that Andy accepts PSUs that have been previously "violated". ;)

Yeah, that lazy slacker FBz did not complete this assignment! ???

But certainly anyone else is welcome to take up this project.
Unless FBz can find the time after a current ATX PSU project. ;)
