Title: Requests
Post by: Cashed on January 18, 2022, 04:05:49 AM
Some of us got a knack for finds.
We simply can't resist a challenge.

Please be as specific as possible with the information you post.
We'll take the quest upon us to find your particular application or script.

The pursuers are ready -let the hunt begin...

What are you searching for,
what's your request ?

Have you tried e-mailing Alexander Clauss about it?

I tried to reach out to him a few months ago  but haven't heard from him, unfortunately.

No, I foresaw that. That’s why I’m asking Cashed.

Thanks for that challenge -very enlightening.

See attached reply.
No luck -just yet. But don't give up.

I replied to him. Asking, if it's the same case with the Crystal Atari Browser source code.
If we're allowed porting CAB 2.8, for Classic Mac OS ourselves. MagiC!Mac emu runs CAB on the Mac.
Alexander used to do that, before he ported it into iCab. The Atari-Forum is very active, so there's help within reach.
*Dependencies may be skipped altogether since, prior to becoming CAB, it was an offline HTML browser.
It were other programmers who wrote Internet plugins for it, so it could access the Internet. *(side note)
Moreover,
Quote from: Alexander
"this is something I don't have time for, sorry."
can have many implications. Meaning at the current time or due to other projects, or simply, not having the hardware to do it.
I woke up with an idea. I vote in favor, that we all chip in $0,76-4,58 and buy Jacques Mac mini G4/1.42 (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,6179.msg46250/topicseen.html#msg46250), put our Mac OS 9 build on it -along with Metrowerks Codewarrior, and send it off to Alexander (https://lowendmac.com/2011/interview-with-alexander-clauss-icabs-creator/).
When the time comes closer to finishing the next build, pm me and I'll ask him again.

*Update: Cab source code "died" -see attachment.
You might have to go with dotexe1337 idea (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,6174.msg46131.html#msg46131) for now.

The world remains physical.

Encyclopedia of fonts (as a pdf file).

Learned to say "I come in peace," in Russian.
When they finally understood me, I were kindly deported towards the Chinese–Russian border.
I stopped dead in my RU tracks, when I ended up in China.
The Encyclopedia of Fonts by Gwyn Headley.pdf (https://www.docin.com/search.do?searchcat=1001&nkey=gwyn+headley) (It does say pdf ;) -quest over.)

Nice to find that the world isn't all digitized yet. Honestly, I'd pick up that paperback for $4.58 (https://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Fonts-Gwyn-Headley/dp/184403206X) or even $8,39 (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=The+Encyclopedia+of+Fonts&_sacat=0&_sop=15) and scan it myself.
But then again, one never knows what I'll find when I call up the Hotline for the next quest.

I do love a good conundrum.

Title: Re: Requests

I would like to have a screensaver like Space Plasma 3D for OS 9.
1.
I getcha on the screensaver request, as OS 9 never had one and ’23 should. If I caught it right, you’d like one that ‘resembles’ the looks of Space Plasma 3D right?
As that one was released by Digital Minds Software back in 2004 and v1.0 ever only were made for OS: Win9x/Me/2000/XP
https://web.archive.org/web/20040207113556/http://www.digimindsoft.com/space-plasma-3d-screensaver.htm (https://web.archive.org/web/20040207113556/http://www.digimindsoft.com/space-plasma-3d-screensaver.htm)
https://web.archive.org/web/20050428002930/http://www.screensavers-source.com/screensavers.php (https://web.archive.org/web/20050428002930/http://www.screensavers-source.com/screensavers.php)

2.
OS23 be frank with me, and I wont cross The Encyclopaedia of Fonts off the list, just yet.
If it’s not a conundrum and you really do need it for your work, I’ll still keep it tucked in the back of my mind, in my ongoing search.
I haven’t yet tried tho to search for a translated version of it.
But what does it contain, besides 10.000 fonts?
If it’s Fonts you’re after I have 11.773 TTF, OTF, AFM Fonts, I burned to discs in 2005, I can stuff in the dropbox. May have more if I search my ext 4,5 TB.

3.
Acrobat 5 SDK -that’s bad to lack. I’m in the process of contacting bloggers and forum posters, that had it back in 2002 to 2008.

Are you absolutely sure, that you don’t have any of these files names tucked away, among all your ftp folders?
‘acro5sdkr1.sit.hqx’
’acro5sdkr2.sit.hqx’
'acro5sdkr3.sit.hqx' or .hqx
‘acro5sdkr4.hqx’

If no, I’ll have to install Hotline or any other clients, Carracho, Pitbull, KDX, IRC, w/ZNC etc. and try my tracker luck there then.

For those of you who wish to Assist in the quests of our inquiries, see self-help (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=6183.0;attach=9550). Use Keka extract (https://www.keka.io/en/). See OP avatar for pass.

*Update, just got notified. Unfortunately the installer we received, pulls down the full SDK from online, which does not exist anymore, so saddle up! We do not have Acrobat 5 SDK - Quest Resumes.

Regarding Requests, as I can't edit the OP.
Do please pm me or post here when inquiries has been found -so quests can end.

So the problem with the Acrobat 5 SDK is that it’s an online installer.

If my memory is good, I experienced something similar with the StuffIt 6 SDK.

Then I’m looking also for REALbasic 2007 (or better) for Windows with working password.

No, no. What you download from Wikipedia is XML that contains Wikitext. I search XML that contains XML or HTML. Some companies claimed that they were working on this, but I never saw an actual download.

You should have known that if we can’t find it then it will be difficult.

Thanks OS923
I did find it odd -that it was that easy.

All right listen up trackers, I’m an enneagram type 6, with wings on both sides and can with ease jump around to any type, but I too have my limits. I ever only end up in type 5, which OS923 is, when I get an idea or track down one, or the etymology of a word. I can literally spend hours, and I loose the ability to pass on for others to understand me at all.
Common jobs for people with enneagram type 5 are mathematicians, scientists and computer programmers like OS923.

Anyone that can supply with any help of any left out specifics are more than welcome to chip in. What year, What Companies, any additional information?
That can help me and others better understand, what to insert in the search terms would be much appreciated.

MS Parser Library (PPC), also known as Microsoft Parser Library 4.5.
I search the headers for this library.
Preferably also the source code.
This was part of Microsoft Internet Services 4.5.

Thanks for specifying OS923 and the links.

I haven’t gotten around to searching the XML conversation from others yet, have read the links you attached. First impression that comes to mind is, that it does seem like all that is needed for converting is already in that link. Follow up later.

I’m sure the Web Installer doesn’t work, but I’ve attached it anyway.

I need one with more memory please, to search this archive, as it uses significant memory -and yes I have my 40 tabs closed. ⌘+F search term: framework

It would be nice if a real programmer with insights could try google using the search terms:
"source code" + "Microsoft Internet Services" + "4.5"
"headers" + "IIS" + "4.5"
Or whatever else comes to mind. There’s plenty of results, I’m unsure of which one to pick exactly.

I don't believe you.

no idea about SCSI apps. i only send audio apps to audio sites.

make you sure you have midi manager OMS driver installed first or s-edit might create an invalid prefs file.

If Kat Dennings could hand deliver to my address that would be great.

-PT HD plugins for OS9
-OS9 Digidesign midi 1/o driver / extension

I’m looking also for REALbasic 2007 (or better) for Windows with working password.

You can download all REALbasic installers from the very beginning of 2007 onwards from the official website.

Create an account at https://www.xojo.com/ , then go straight to https://xojo.com/download/archives.php to get the stuff.

I think @NilObject from the Macintosh Garden would be able to get you serials required for the abandonware versions that are no longer sold (such as all versions branded as "REALbasic", as opposed to, say, "Xojo"). Maybe rutracker.org includes a keygen in one of their old REALbasic downloads, sometimes the serials work across multiple versions, so i.e. you could get the keygen for REALbasic 2009 and try it against 2007 instead.

===========================================

Now if I may make a request myself, I would like to see the Windows installer for REALbasic 2006 Release 3 (REALbasic 2006r3). This being the latest version able to target Mac OS (natively, no Carbon bullshit, else 2007r3 would suffice), it would be GREAT to have the Windows version of it.

There was no Mac OS version of that IDE, sadly. Thankfully, we do have it available for Mac OS X in the Garden, thanks to Knezzen and others, which is great, BUT if we had the Windows version, we could shove that b*tc* up into a VirtualPC Windows XP VM from within Mac OS 9.2.2. We can't quite emulate Mac OS X from within Mac OS 9 quite well just yet, to say the least.

For that purpose, the GNU/Linux version of REALbasic 2006r3 would also be good to have, but we might avoid some caveats by favoring the Windows edition over that one. But both are welcome.

2006r1, 2006r2 or 2006r4 Win no good?

2006r1, 2006r2 or 2006r4 Win no good?

All of those would be great to have, in particular 2006r2. 2006r3 would be the ideal version, but having the others can also help. Although I hear that 2006r1 was very buggy compared to its predecessor, 5.5.5. Having 2006r4 might also help since it should make it easy to port to 2006r3 if I move the project to a PPC Mac with it installed, at least for compiling.

On that note, I believe we also have 5.5.3 for Windows, but I don't think I have seen 5.5.5 for it. Couldn't hurt to keep that one as well, if we ever crossed ways with it.

Are these now considered collectible?  ;D ;D ;D
With exception of Windoze and Greystash, I haven't seen anyone compiling and releasing OS9 stuff lately.. ;)

CORRECTION. To be fair, IIO also released OS9 plugs, but those might be his older works.

Can't attach 2006r2 OSX, although I should. 37MB. Maintenance issues?
2006r4 versions (Win, Linux) are ~95MB and too big to attach here.

Whoa, thanks! You even put 5.5.5 in there, I'm awed you even had that one! This IS much like collecting "cards" or something, and then trading them with people who may have other cards you want, isn't it...

I don't expect myself to make anything as amazing as what Greystash and others made, but for starters I'm getting my feet wet with an app supposed to make Mini vMac a lot more useful (within OS 9, but other platforms also benefit, due to the amazing nature of REALbasic). You see, my biggest beef with Mini vMac is how the app has NO configuration, instead it has a collection of compile-time settings. There's an app, a "Mini vMac Source Code Preparer" of sorts, which takes a bunch of arguments so that it spits out a StuffIt file with the ADAPTED source code with all the compile-time settings you chose. Then compiling via MPW is very straightforward. Thing is, this procedure is a PAIN when you just want a different resolution, color depth, emulated Mac model or whatever. Remembering all the valid command line options, and selecting valid combinations of commands, and all valid values for the arguments... it is very painful each time you revisit. So I want to destroy that burden, and make it stupid easy.

My RB 5.5.5 program already spits out a text file with the command line arguments, so now it's just a matter of grabbing all the possible values and options for the final Mac-OS-9-compatible version (Mini vMac 3.5.8 ), lists of which were removed from the official website for no good reason. I retrieved them from archive.org, and now am gluing them all in.

After this ultra simple project, I will see where to go next. :) Hopefully something more generally useful?

2006r4 versions (Win, Linux) are ~95MB and too big to attach here.

Perhaps the following page would be suitable for those other versions, if you have a Macintosh Garden account: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/realbasic-1x-2x-3x-4x-5x

It is a page which has been refactored to include more and more REALbasic versions. Since we have a different page for 2007 and up (separated from the rest, since Xojo Inc. still hosts such versions themselves), 2006 and earlier would make perfect sense in that existing page. (If you put those files there, I can update the description for it soon after, to save you some time.)

.. if you have a Macintosh Garden account..

I don't and don't plan to have one.
Uploads seem to be fixed, so there goes 2006r2 Mac. As to the r4, I'll put them up somewhere else and let you know via PM.
