The PSU in my MDD started to fail with random lockups and such mid 2021. I have an ADC Apple Cinema HD display hooked up to the MDD, so an ATX mod was no option for me.

Instead, I had the Samsung PSU recapped. It's not easy to work on, so you need to be really good with a soldering iron. I gave it to someone who is. I paid like 70 euros here, which is OK given the thousands of euros I saved over the years by dropping out of the upgrade cycle. So it's a very economical investment to me - if you use the computer just for tinkering and otherwise pour your money into Apple's latest stuff, you may feel it's not worth spending.

I plan on using the G4 DA for music stuff and I expect it will work hard and need reliability.  I'm having the power supply repaired by Andy (the guy on ebay).  The more I read posts on this site the more I want a MDD machine so maybe I'll pick up a broken one and tinker with that power supply.

As for my setup I use a modern desktop (AMD FX-6300) and laptop (7th gen i7) for my main computers.  I avoid any Apple products that aren't PowerPCs.  I have a G3 B&W I used until 2008 as my main computer before I retired it.  When I bought the G4 DA, I brought the B&W out of retirement and found it 2 of the SCSI hard drives had failed.  The primary IDE port doesn't work either so I probably need a new motherboard.  I'm getting way off topic here.  I'll post again when I get the supply repaired and reinstalled.
Just got it running on my Aluminum G4!

I have a few questions though

1. Can I dual boot with Tiger?

I Have mine dual booting with 10.4.11

2. To enable the speakers, does the device plugged into the headphone jack have to be a working device, or could I just cut the plug of a cheap garbage pair of earbuds and use that?

A Dummy plug will enable the speakers to work, however on mine only the left speaker works so not sure if that's a thing or if speaker is cooked?

No, I foresaw that. Thatís why Iím asking Cashed.

All I can say is wow. No problems at all setting up and running on my MDD dual G4 @ 1.25ghz machine. The system is running great. Thanks to everyone who made this happen.

Video of the machine booting up

Sadly the video is unavailable, so I can not post a Happy Birthday comment. Nor on any other of you videos:

Nor can I no longer find you on Twitter: @TekHunter123

Head on over to for your daily dose of the popular modern original old-tech-new retro trip.
Installation Help・Extending the functionality of Mac OS 9 Post

Mac OS 9 Within Reach.

You are here

So you finally got your hands in something that, 'at least' can run;
      Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah
      Mac OS X 10.1 Puma
      Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar
      Mac OS X 10.3 Panther
      Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
And youíre using the Classic Environment to reach Mac OS 9.
Or you are using emulators such as;
Basilisk II -An Open Source 68k Macintosh emulator for Mac OS 0.x thru 8.1
Mini vMac emulate a Macintosh Plus and can run Apple Macintosh System versions 1.1 to 7.5.5

SheepShaver -An Open Source PowerMac Emulator for Mac OS 9.0.4
Maybe youíre using the Chubby Bunny bundle.
Or you are using PowerPC emulation such as QEMU;
QEMU with Mac OS 9 guest *and working audio.
Emulating Mac OS 9.2 with sound on Apple Silicons and Intel.
Or you have a RaspBerry PI.

Or you are using something else -the list goes on...

In any case, you've found a way to reach any of the Original Operating Systems, but what n⦿w ?

Howto play a synthesizer or in a DAW in Mac OS 9, from your positi⦿n ?

OMS & V.M.K properly installed.
OMS (Opcode MIDI System/Open Music System) 2.3.8 will do. Install▷ Click Search▷ Click OK. Now you can use the ○○ IAC Bus #1
V.M.K ďlets you use your computer keyboard as a MIDI controller unit. It is primarily developed for PowerBook users on the run, but may be useful for anyone without a MIDI keyboard at hand.Ē

If you launch your synth first -before you launch V.M.K -you can choose the synth from V.M.K's MIDI Port.

This only works for Macintosh PPC.
Iíll search for 68K options.

All-right, so youíre in Mac OS 9, and you wanna to try 68k architecture applicati⦿n ?

From our beloved Macintosh Garden

Try your first synth:
Absynth 1.0.2.sit
If this doesn't work.

Absynth 1.0.2.sit.hqx
(Use Stuffit to Remove BinHex Encoding -within Mac OS 9)

You can also try other standalone synthesizers like, Unity DS-1 or Retro AS-1 etc.

quicktime in windows 10 will also not open the stream.

Cool! Thanks Architecture for caring & sharing
Holy! Cow! Awesome! You've got a Minimoog!
My brain can't keep up. I'm so impressed with you true musicians.
It takes a hell of a lot of skills mastering what you guys can do.

I've been fiddling...
This is more of a preliminary test run, (embedding test.)
It doesn't really count, as it was made in Cat. back in September, before Bill Gates crashed my Cat.
It could easily tho, have been made using Mac OS 9 only.

Nonetheless it's my work, a fraction of it anyway. An arpeggio were used.
The lenght is complete, but the track ain't. Still got work to do for the final version, e.g. the intro from v0.1.

Preliminary tests:
Next Synthesizer v0.3.aif (cons: file size 13,2 MB -too big, Not uploaded)
MIDI conversion test (pros: file size 41 KB. cons: blueprint & missing sounds, -Not uploaded)
QuickTime Broadcast test 1: (pros: file size 33 KB. cons: 24/7 broadcasting in Snow Leopard on Mac Mini 13 watts -Uploaded-Streaming)
Next Synthesizer v0.3: Next Synthesizer v0.3.mp3 (pros: files size 639 KB. cons: -low quality, sounds bad -Uploaded)
QuickTime Broadcast test 2: Next Synthesizer (13,2 MB *Uploaded *Only to test if the 'player window' shows up -will delete)
DropBox Folder Share test: Next Synthesizer v0.1 - v0.3 (pros: 2 GB Free Dropbox Account. cons: new browser window opens up) *testing code for minimized window)

*Update: Choose Dropbox for now.
Support ending on April for My WD Cloud 3 TB -being too old, not an option.
Neither will streaming be.

Will look into tweaking code for embedded links and minimized window later.

*Will return to edit post, with further testings

Source code of iCab 3.0.7 for classic Mac OS.

Have you tried e-mailing Alexander Clauss about it?

I tried to reach out to him a few months ago  but haven't heard from him, unfortunately.
