Title: Mac OS 9 on Powerbook G4 A1138
Post by: wopper on September 16, 2016, 08:10:43 AM
In late 90's I first met with Mac OS 9 on iMac G3 during my classes in the elementary school. I was amazed how the computer may look like. Unfortunate, my journey with an Apple computer as my home machine started almost ten years later - in "the Intel era". Some time ago I was able to get the Powerbook G4 machine in pretty decent condition, it is the last PowerPC 15-inch Hi-Res model with 1,67 GHz CPU and ATI 9700 128 MB. I maxed RAM to 2GB and put PATA SSD drive in it.

To make long story short - is it possible to run Mac OS 9 on it? I have searched the forum and it looks like it can be done, but I am not sure how and what to do. Is there any HOWTO? Could somebody please explain to me step-by-step what should I do? Thank you!

Sorry for my english, I am not a native speaker.

While some of our resident geniuses been having some great successes getting OS9 to boot on unsupported hardware, the 1138 is not yet among them. It's not far from people's minds though since OS9 at 1.67Ghz would be a Holy Grail of laptops. So, although the day may come, this minute the answer is sorry, no.
