Apple CD/DVD optical drive names and their functionality.

Does anyone of you guys have or know where to find a list of Apple manufactured CD/DVD optical drives (Ti, Al and Mac Minis) with their names and model numbers decrypted into what kind of drives they actually are?
All I read everywhere is super combo 2x/24x, super-duper combo 100x, super combo-duper, super-super combo and all that kind of thing.
It drives me nuts

while this does not answer the questiom... a working method to know what you got is to remove the stock stuff and replace it with something proper.

for example none of the drives in apple computers can read 800 mb CD media, none of them writes DVD-ROM, and so on. burning speed... noise, you name it.

You can use "drutil info" to see the model number of the optical drive. Most slot-loading drives from the iMac G3 to G5 era are made by Matsushita or Sony. You can also see all of the capabilities of the drives using Schilly's (R.I.P.) "cdrecord -inq"

For example, the "SuperDrive" sold with the 1 GHz TiBook is a Matsushita UJ-815
The "DL SuperDrive" sold with the 1.67 GHz HR AlBook is a UJ-846

Of course in OS9 your choices for tools are more limited, I think Roxio Toast 5.2.3 is the latest compatible app and is not nearly as flexible as cdrecord.

I have collected a bunch of G4 PBs, including dead ones, and a Mini and just wanted to see their drive specs and then decide for myself which drives are worth keeping and/or swapping and which ones could go straight to the dumpster.

For a long time I recall it was mostly Panasonic/Matsushita drives, some lite-on, some pioneer, some sony. And you couldn't count on a model being consistent on which drives it used across it's lifespan.

A few of what I have. There are others, but right now I don't want to boot all of the machines that I have.
