Title: Village Tronic cards
Post by: teroyk on June 09, 2020, 11:53:20 AM
I found almost all Mac OS 9 drivers for Village Tronic graphics cards:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040526045236/http://villagetronic.com/ftp/mac/
there is also ROM-images
Betatest folder has only some files before they goto under password.

Village Tronic VTBook driver version 1.2 beta had these more than last official 1.1:
- On Mac OS 9 the control Monitor & MP is installed in order to give you more control on the display connected to the VTBook.
- The installer installs by default only the card's NDRV driver and the 2D accelerator. The OpenGL accelerator is installable as a custom or separated install.
- Please remember that OpenGL accelerator is in alpha stage: its functionality is not complete and its stability can't be assured.

Does somebody have VTBook driver 1.2 beta driver (or newer)?

I am also interested this beta driver (dead link in above link):
VTBook_Installer_OS9_1.0b1.sit

EDIT: because last official v.1.1 installer doesn't have driver itself, I also looking for VTBook Installer 1.0.img.sit

Any version of VTBook drivers are welcome, because I cannot find any working version.
Only version that doesn't have dead link is:
https://web.archive.org/web/20060421232429/http://www.villagetronic.com/ftp/mac/vtbook/VTBook_OS9_Installer_1.1.sit
and it has only Control Panel and 2D acceleration extension, but not driver itself.

The earliest working link I can find to VT's website download page is this one

https://web.archive.org/web/20050217031449/http://www.villagetronic.com/vtbook/download.html

per the description, this v1.1 of the OS9 installer contains the driver. I remember downloading the drivers for my card years ago and not having a problem with any of the OSes supported.

Now tested with Powerbook G4 and Powerbook G3 and with two(!) cards that tested to work with OS X and they don't work with OS 9 with that driver.
Custom install even says that size 0K for driver. It install control panel and it doesn't find card after install.

Here is VillageTronic VTBook 1.0 driver from driver CD-ROM. Tested to work with Powerbook G4. Read additional installation-instructions before do anything and you get it work.

I also looking for 1.2beta or newer  drivers for 3D-acceleration and video-acceleration.

That READ-FIRST is very useful. It seems that custom install doesn't work, but easy install works. It seems that Monitors & MP is not in english, but it works. I tested little older english Monitors & MP, but I think that is one version too old to support VTBook. What is last version of VillageTronic Monitors & MP controlpanel?

That is true. Driver CD-ROM that came with card (what is bought from UK) didn't have english Monitors & MP althought everything else is in english on that CD-ROM.

I think we should looking for last beta drivers for VTBook or MPDD Pro to get last english Monitors & MP.

EDIT: it had typo in MPDD Pro.

Hello!

Maybe you can try to drop a mail to Pierre Dandumont.
He tested this card as you can see here:  https://www.journaldulapin.com/2016/02/07/pcmcia-gpu-vtbook/

Bumping this one as a new thread doesn't seem to be in order: Has anyone here gotten this card to work in OS9?

Info in link says 9.2.x is required, has this config been tested as yet?
https://www.mymac.com/2003/10/vtbook-32mb-ddr-graphics-cardreview/

This one has spec. from manual: 9.2.2 is minimum config it seems?
