Title: Highpoint cards - probably no mac rom/drivers
Post by: macStuff on June 03, 2019, 04:16:51 AM
not sure if there ever was macintosh roms or drivers for these cards but including them here just in case to discuss that possibility; i have one of these iWill SideRaid66 - i doubt there is macintosh drivers for it tho
the literature im readijng here is suggesting that they invented ATA66

HPT366 – The industry’s first ATA66 embedded ATA66 controller. This chipset is adopted by leading motherboard vendors including ABIT, I will, and ECS. Well over a million HPT366 are sold, establishing HighPoint as a major player in the PC storage market. http://highpoint-tech.com/USA_new/about_rocketraid_ide.htm

highpoint did have a macintosh specific website but that was only from the time of panther/tiger onwards; the question is; did they have macintosh version of their earlier ultraATA boards?

Not they. I made a HighPoint 370 driver but decided to ditch it. If anyone wants to try it...
Sorry, can give binaries only, no source code even for MacOS 9.x

There is a SiliconImage ATA chip, too - I have the MacOS 9.x driver for that as well, feel free to put it inside of a ROM.

The "Promise" "Sonnet" FT UltraTek/100/133 cards beat all common PATA cards. And as I see they non-Mac versions are quite common.
Since I have the permit from Sonnet... I guess, this will kill the rest.

I can upload the factory flasher for these Promise cards any time, just tell me where.
At this moment for coming few weeks I can't verify them because I am waiting for the MDD G4 memory and SSD-s.

If anyone has a good suggestion about a video card which can drive a HP LP3065 30" monitor that would be great.
The original video card is really low level.

The problem is that such a card in it's PC form can't be seen on the PCI bus of the G4 MDD at all.
I have no problem to "see" them in my 2009 "flashed 2012" dual processor MacPro via a PCI - PCIe adapter.

But for some reason not on the dual 1 GHz MDD 400 FireWire, not even in Open Firmware.

Is it a known problem?

I remember, that when we made these cards, the pre-production was flashed from PC to Mac on Sawtooth or even earlier.

In the mean time I got quite a few Promise cards, too.

This part of "rejuvenation" looks rather easy - once I have the proper computer.

If not, I will make them work on Intel, but you will need to either have a Hackintosh with PCI slots or have the PCI-PCIe adapter which works.

I got the "other" adapter (from PCIe card to PCI computer) few days ago - it makes a Kernel Panic in everything "X" on the access to PCIe.
But the card inside can be seen in Open Firmware. Even an NVMe drive.

i think ive had the most success flashing in PC's with AGP graphics (early 2000s period, 440BX chipset time period)

I have the second "new" MDD, recent purchase for an equivalent of $35.
It had even a somewhat better (9000, but not "pro") graphics card inside, but only a single processor of 1 GHZ and FW400.
Bought a dual processor boards for $20-something from the States and a copper heatsink separately.

That machine will be in our holiday home, but will test the Promise cards before I go there again.

I have someone promised me a QS G4 near Heilbronn, maybe will pick it up. But it's over 100 Euro.
