Title: Apple Powerbook G4 A1095 1.33GHz freeze when finishing OS 9.2 boot
Post by: cyberluke on October 11, 2022, 01:54:19 PM
Hi, I installed this image for unsupported G4 as my G4 will refuse to boot normal OS 8.6 or 9.2 CD: http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,2143.0.html

Everything went well, but it always freeze on boot. It always happens at 99%. I see Mac OS 9.2 logo with icons at the botton and loading bar at 99% with message: "Starting up...". I tried to reinstall and reformat twice already.

The model is:
Apple Powerbook G4 A1095 2GB 80GB (1.33 GHz)

The main reason I want native OS is that games like Dark Forces in Mac OS X 10 (Tiger) with Classic JIT emulation have tearing (double buffering issue) and are not that fast. I read that Mac OS 9 native might have double buffering by default and therefore tearing in those classic games and 8.6 might be the right one.

The goal is to play DOS games counterparts in SVGA resolutions: Prince Of Persia, Sim City 2000, Dark Forces.

Thank you for any clues...

EDIT: Yes, it does have ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (AGP 4x)

CPU is PowerPC 7447a

I was curious about this as well. I just bought this same model PowerBook and wanted to have three boot images (OS 9, 10.4.11 and Sorbet Leopard).

Make sure you've removed the ‘Multi Processing’ folder within Extensions. Boot into safe mode by holding the shift while booting (or boot from the CD again) and when the desktop has loaded open the ‘System Folder’, then ‘Extensions’. Remove the ‘Multi Processing’ folder by moving it to your desktop or deleting it. Restart the machine and it should boot without freezing. The extension(s) within this folder causes some incompatibilities with the unsupported systems and causes freezing during the boot process.
