Title: has anyone heard any SSD's making noises?
Post by: macStuff on August 21, 2018, 11:24:38 PM
this OCZ VERTEX 4 i have - its making noises whenever data is accessed..
the same way that oldschool vintage drives used to.. but slightly different.
but the sounsd correspond to data access..
just wondering if anyone has witnessed something like this before

i read an article online saying that theres probably a defective component inside the drive but it still seems to work fine

it's a natural matter of fact (probably) due to periodic load changes of the device.
I remember when I got my Revo Drive (SSD on a PCIe card) I messed it's faint noise with a buzz of flies outside the window.  ;D
Also a notebook SSD's high chirping could be well noticed in a silent room.
So you're correct: those devices often are not noiseless in a strict sense of the word.
(it depends on the mechanic design)
