Hi, I’m having issues installing Os9 again on my iBook G3 Dual 600mhz.
I’ve downloaded a few different versions of the installers, I downloaded the link that has the G3 500mhz installers discs, they look exactly like the ones that came with my iBook originally which I have since lost. Unfortunately I can’t get it to install? A symbol with a question mark comes up? I also tried using the 9.2.2 universal installer and it boots to coloured lines across the screen? Anyone have an idea what might be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Reading back through all of your posts thus far,
seems that you’ve some constant & persistent installation problem(s).
I wonder if you have created a trustworthy, dependable OS 9.2.2 install disc.
On which machine have you downloaded the files and then burnt them from?
Perhaps need to review just how you’re actually creating your installer disc(s)?
I gave up trying to burn on newer machines where I’d downloaded them.
Now I move those downloaded files to a G4 and then burn installer discs there.
600 MHz G3 iBook, MDD and Quicksilvers here have no problem recognizing, booting
and installing from Universal or MacTron’s Bootable Rescue CD discs created in this manner.

http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,1657.0.html (MacTron’s)
Hope that your problem(s) are as simple as this. ;)

Hi
Which symbol do you have exactly ? is it a folder or a floppy disk with a question mark ?
Then, did you burn your CD at low speed or not ? This can be very important to make it readable by your G3 drive.

Thanks for the replies, I’ve tried to download different versions of the installer such as 9.1, 9.2, I managed to install one of them but ended up with coloured vertical lines going up and down the screen? I think it’s a specific installer that I need for this iBook. I’ve been downloading the installers from here & Macintosh garden.

It seems to need a very specific version of OS 9.2.2. :o
Sorry for the French link but you can give google translate a try if you don’t read French:

Thanks I just translated into English and it mentions about requiring the original installer discs for the iBook G3 snow 600mhz which has 16VRAM. Maybe the only solution is to find the original discs? I did find a link on Macintosh Garden for download for an iBook 500mhz machine and the photos of the actual discs look exactly the same as the ones I used to own. I tried this but was unable to get the installer to work? I guess I need to find my original discs!

Did you try on archive.org ?
Like here : https://archive.org/details/software?query=ibook+cd
Or more precisely here (maybe it is not exactly the right one, check it before):
