I want to install OS9 on my MDD FW400 with Leopard OS to configure a dual boot. If I read the MacOS9Lives page correctly the Universal OS file (Mac OS 9.2.2 Universal Install - ISO CD Image - Most Popular) posted here may work. First, is that correct for the MDD FW400? Second issue is that I get a 404 not found when I clilck on the download link.
A separate question is installing OS9 on my FW800 machine. Can that be done with this image? Is the firmware version an issue?

Hi Click,
there has been an issue with the hosting provider few days ago (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,5973.msg44599/topicseen.html#new) and the download links are not restored yet. In the meantime, somebody may be able to share the ISO with you through a sharing service.
I may have a copy of the unsupported machines OS9 ISO but it may not be the latest one.
As for the FW800 MDD, there should be a thread about it in the forum that details the things that are known to work and things that aren't (like FW800 ports being working as FW800 only).

Apparently, MacGarden has the OS9 official disc for the MDD FW400 !

This should be a safe starting point for your OS9 setup on one machine ;)

the fw 800 needs the universal. if you install the fw 400 CD onto an fw 800, you would need to write an OS9 driver on its HD by removing the HD and formatting it in another machine.

OR: Start the FW 800 MDD in "Target Mode" (hold T key down after power up) and connect to the FW 400 computer with a FireWire cable to reformat the FW 800 Hard Drive with OS 9 drivers.
I can confirm this worked for me, when I was unable to boot a FW 800 MDD from any of the various CDs, and is easier than having to remove and put in FW case, remove and reinstall.

Okay. I downloaded the 9.2.2 image from macintoshgarden just to be sure I have something for now. I had to use a Win machine since the MDD is in storage at present. Hopefully a Win downloaded image will work-I think I saw a comment that it's okay when copied to the target Mac machine.
Thanks for the tips, everyone. These forums are the best for solid OS9 know-how. As long as the necessary download files are available somewhere, we can keep the OS9 faith.
