Title: Digidesign Sound Accelerator II
Post by: Syn-Fi on September 28, 2017, 11:58:06 AM
hi,
i have one of these Nubus cards, Sound Accelerator II, and i'm struggling to get it working in an 840av on system 8.1 . Could be i'm lacking the drivers and they do not see available on the digidesign website.

any clues, guidance ?

thanks

this may be the clue:

'NuBus
This kind of slot was fitted in later 680x0-based Macs. With suitable hardware, up to 15 cards can be accommodated, each with an address numbers from 0 to 14, the computer itself having the number 15. Up to eight 12-inch cards of the NuBus 87 variety can be accommodated in a Mac II.

Although the cards talk to the processor at 3 MB/s, they correspond with each other at between 10 and 20 MB/s. The backwards-compatible NuBus 90 card, introduced with the Quadra 700 and 900, runs at 30 MB/s. Unfortunately, the speed reverts to the slower rate if a NuBus 87 card is present.

Some later machines equipped with NuBus 90 slots only accept a 6-inch card. You can solve this problem by plugging an external NuBus expansion rack into the machine’s bus. Your 12-inch cards can then be installed in the rack.
A wide range of networking cards have been produced in the NuBus format.

so i have a Radius Nubus graphics card and it probably won't let the Nubus bus drop to 10mhz to allow the 'sound accelerator' to  work. Unless the 840av ,or maybe another one of the later 68k line can do dual speed Nubus?

Anyone know of this?
