Powerbook G4 motherboard compability
« on: November 05, 2023, 07:40:21 AM »
Has anybody tested put Powerbook G4 400/500Mhz (Mercury) motherboard to Powerbook 550/667Mhz (Onyx). Or Powerbook 667/800Mhz (Ivory) motherboard to Powerbook 867Mhz/1Ghz (P88)? Or another way around? Is that possible at all?

I have and it works (at least swapping the DVI motherboards with other DVI motherboards), but the cooling is quite underdimensioned if you put one of the faster motherboards in one of the slower "houses", so to say. I put a 867mhz motherboard in a 667mhz TiBook and it worked, but always with the fans on full blast. If you compare the insides you see how the cooling is a bit different.

Did fans full blast if you choose Reduce processor speed from Energy Saver Control Panel?
