Shareware Sample Editor

D-Sound Pro 2.5.2 is a Macintosh shareware utility that is capable of managing AIFF sound files and MIDI Sample I/O. It permits sophisticated sound manipulation, such as programmable X-fade looping, time stretch and frequency shifting, resampling using interpolation, pitch conversion, normalization, and many other features. Best of all, it includes Akai SCSI sample dump and sample directory support.

Hi again,

D-Sound Pro was the industry standard to edit/transfer samples through MIDI to load up your sampler. It can read samples in many different formats (Akai, Roland...) which is very useful when you have a bunch of diskettes full of samples and you want to preview individual files.

It is a must if you are working with outboard samplers

probably why noone here has talked about it
not many people here on this site are into using samplers it seems

and it takes ages to transfer samples at Midi data rate... ;)
(but as your very last resort better than nothing)

Back in time I heard  lot about this software but I never had any chance to gave a try... I personally think (dear MusicWorks) that would be massive , upload and share it within the community...

Do you need # for D-Sound Pro?
Does any one have clue if OMS can trigger sample inside of D-Sound for making it become virtual instrument?
versus always using the virtual keyboard...
don't sysex dump long samples with Midi transfer............
personally need sch things for some "vintage" hardware samplers
very handy old program

tried using it for hours last night with Roland S550 that has no SCSI card
need using D-Sound Pro or something for such ancient 12 bit samplers(Korg DSS1 also)
having some problem with Translator Prosync midi sysex
need watching midi in/out messages and/or try my other midi interface today
it's a good sample editor program regardless
and can just dump samples analog in realtime record from it as last resort
will experiment some more today
attempting getting sysex from Mac to S550 as test subject
because once get that pain machine functional w/ sysex
then can use it with multiple other samplers that aren't total infamous "bitches"
anyways.... here's the requested D-Sound Pro intel from my archives
Code: [Select]
v3.5.1 Serial: [k]rack Works BCA-1372384

UPDATE: D-Sound Pro working now send/receive SYSEX w/ S550
yet it's doing "tones" instead of full samples
sort of typical for old roland samplers
something is Bjorked with my Opcode Translator Prosync
my happy little old MACMAN/MidiMan worked like SYSEX Magick :)
hmmm
wonder wtf is up with the prosync box
need checking amps on PSU
it's not the original one
or maybe someone else has hints what may be up with my translator prosync?
it send/receives typical midi just not sysex
plus recognized in OMS
Opcode Translator Prosync Power Supply is 9V, 500mA

It works with the Roland S550 consistently now
thus
every other OMS profile Sampler should be "Japaneasy" with D-Sound Pro

im actually using the newer version of this software, DSP Quattro, on my MDD machine to talk to my samplers. DSP Quattro is the only SCSI-capable sample management software ive run into that can handle mutliple SCSI busses in the same machine. because Im using a SATA card, plus a SCSI card, the machine thinks I have three SCSI busses, and most sample management software, prior versions of DSound Pro included, wouldnt do it. MESA actually plays nice with my S3000XL, but it only works for the Akai so my Kurzweil is out of luck.

the developer still actively maintains DSP Quattro for OSX and you can get the OS9 version with a paid license. He is still easily reachable and answers any questions you throw at him. good stuff and was happy to pony up the cash for the full version after relying on DSound for so many years.

Yes
That's the exact model
there is an "Opcode Translator Pro" (White Box)
listed on the old opcode wayback archives
yet not the translator pro sync with SMPTE & other features
used to run MCI 2" 24 track tape machine with that old black box
plus used it at broadcast TV studio
no clue WtF happened with the manual and any disks
it's working great until attempted SYSEX with it
it's all a nostolgic adventure digging through my old gear
& suitcases filled with cables
haven't been using those those machines since maybe 2001/2002
they all went into "cryogenic stasis"

Any who might still be on this thread know where I could find D-Sound?  I'm trying to talk to an old Akai S612 I own and use SDS transfer.  I think D-Sound has akai sampler support.  PM me if you happen to know where I could find it.

I'm going to see if Peak works also, but I'm not sure it has the right kind of drivers for Akai..  as I understand it, the Akai samplers of those days (note it was a 12 bit sampler) didn't use standard SDS, they had something special that programs like sample wrench (amiga / pc) worked with.

The link above is a dead link so I'm afraid it might be one of these things where I just have to hope someone who has the software still somewhere could share it.

this link requires a password:
ftp://ftp.synthzone.com/pub/midi/misc/d-soundpro-351.hqx

ugh.. sooo close..

Thanks,
Caleb

I'm looking for this software as well. Anyone got a link? The one on synthzone is password protected.

yea someone found another version, but the file didn't appear to work for me.  i couldn't unarchive it / install it.  seemed to be full of bogus files.  Let me find the file.  Maybe you might have luck.  I'm not super seasoned dealing with OS9 era software.   sit.. hqx..  etc..   I'll post this for now and hunt down that link with another post.
