If I look inside the ATI drivers with PEF Viewer, there in one interesting 'Untitled Data Section'. Apparently, it is compressed, but I am not sure what I'm seeing there when I look at it. What is it? FCode? I don't recognize any of the code.
Anyone? Joevt?

The colored stripes indicate a 69 Ω resistor with 5% tolerance. (12*12)/69 ≈ 2.1 W.
Hard drives may not present a load on 12V all of the time; when they sleep by spinning down, they stop drawing power. But case fans operate consistently whenever power is on. It doesn't take too many case fans to add up to 2.1 W.
The stability of regulation can be tested using an instrument called a DC Electronic Load, which would be required to "check out" any modification.
It's also worth pointing out that some computers use the 12V rail to run the CPU, through a "point of load" (POL) buck regulator next to it.

I do list them all as-is (multiple times both in the description and in the condition) on eBay. No, I have not been putting new thermal paste in. Certainly something for me to think about.

Hey @davecom, something has been nagging @me in the back of my mind about your G4 Mac minis. While you’ve touted “upgrades” and “enhancements” and cleaning them to the “best of your ability”... it finally occurred to me that there’s been no mention of removing their CPU heatsinks, removing the old heatsink paste (and/or removing the foil pad) from these now near twenty year-old machines… AND then renewing the heatsink paste before reassembly and sale.

Do you perform this now long overdue task on each of them and have simply failed to mention it? If you have not done this, perhaps it is best that you do offer them all “as is”.

Caveat emptor?

Conversely, if you have renewed the paste… you should definitely mention that. ;)

Yes, total freeze, mouse can't be moved.
At this very moment.

Hangs as in a total freeze (no mouse movement)?

What would be the best way to catch what's wrong with last versions of ATI RockHopper drivers from OSX 10.3.9 and up?
MacsBug? The Mini hangs at the moment whet ATI extensions start to load.

To clarify. By last versions I ment these three:

ATY,RockHopper2-1.0.1f75.pef
ATY,RockHopper2-1.0.1f89.pef
ATY,RockHopper2-1.0.1f100.pef

I've made my own drivers for OS9 with them.

FYI. v9 ROM file for Mini contains this one, the only real RockHopper2 driver that works in OS9
ATY,RockHopper2-1.0.1f63.pef

It's included on the Apple Developer Connection CDs.

Make sure to look at the "Tool Chest" CD.

Mac OS 9, Hacks & Upgrades / Re: Some icons are missing in 8.6 compared to 9.x

Yeah it's scrambled for me too.

Which version are you running? FAT or Carbon? IIRC, some icons related stuff is also inside data fork(s).
