New members intro
« on: May 17, 2024, 07:10:35 AM »

Hi, all.

New member living in Wales, UK.
I've been using Macs for the past 30 or so years, and have recently had an inkling to boot Classic OS and run Escape Velocity or Realmz.
Looking forward to my time here, many thanks!

Hello and welcome aboard romanboy!

Seems that our Welcoming Committee has fallen down on their job of acknowledging each new member, so hopefully this might serve as a welcome to all those that “we” might have recently missed?

We’re still awaiting the possible return of a feature that would at least allow us to “like” new members’ first postings (like yours) that would rather simply serve to let you know that someone had actually read your first post... instead of feeling like your effort has simply gone unnoticed and into the void. (Yes, I had to bring this up again.) ;D

But for now, back on track romanboy... WELCOME!

Welcome!

Realmz, eh? For years I meant to upload to the Macintosh Garden many Realmz goodies I have that I think are no longer found elsewhere. It's just that there are so many files, that editing the Realmz page takes many, many hours to sort them all out.

You can't go wrong with those two games!

What goodies do you have? I have a Beta of the Carbon version of Realmz somewhere...

Mr. Hand? Is that a Fallout New Vegas reference?

I've just finished installing MacOS 9 onto my Powerbook 5,2.
It's so quick with the 1GHz CPU, a flash drive and 1GB of RAM, even though the logic board only recognises one stick of RAM.
Doing final tweaks on it, but I managed to get graphics working correctly with the ATI video driver another member posted here. I just need to figure out Ethernet, and I'll be browsing Macintosh Garden in no time!

Hello! I found this wonderful site while researching how to build a Mac Os 9 station to run a bunch of classic games and apps I've recently dug out of my attic. My first Apple was a Centris 650 followed soon by a Quadra (I forget the number) as was my first introduction to Mac os 7-9. I was contemplating just doing emulation, but I happen to have two g4 PowerPC Mac Minis that I could use to run a full version of 9! Finding this site and the pre-built file to put Os 9 on my mini is now going to be my weekend project! I'm sure I'll have questions once that happens. I'd like to turn my aging cd's and floppies into .Iso files for instance, and if I remember correctly, Os 9 couldn't deal with them natively. Anyways, wish me luck on getting this installed!

Welcome and good luck with your project, bislab!

Emulation has its merits, but personally I always prefer "the real thing" - not just because of compatibility. Feel free to open up topics with specific questions if you should run into trouble.
