just found this compatibility chart

if u want the best performing speed of graphics for mac os 9... and want the least hassle, get a)a geforce 3 ti (200 or 500) or b) geforce 4 ti (4200,4400,4600) or c) a radeon 8500 (superior to the 9000,9100,8500LE).. these cards work in *all g4 macs* without any need for taping over pins, the 7000 series radeons dont require taping aswell but 8500s are far superior.. and both the geforce 4 ti 4400 and 4600 are superior to the radeon 8500. anything above these cards become agp 8x and require the tape modification and do not have mac os 9 official driver support.

i will add that the 8500LE was exactly the same as the 8500 with slightly slower ram chips and can usually  be bought found for just as cheap a price as the radeon 7000/9200 cards and would be superior to both of these options.. and should be easily flashable for us with mac os 9 in any agp capable pc.

here we can see that the 6600 Nvidia cards , as suspected , *ARE* compatible with MDD
interesting to see the x800 series and 7800GS arent compatible with sawtooth?

what about the fx 5800 / fc 5950 / fx 5900? why are they ignored on this chart?
are they not flashable?

What in the bloody hell... I'm getting more and more confused here. I have two dual g5 machines that i plan on trying to repair in the near future. I got an Ati Radeon x800 xt for one of them, and since none of the g5 units are in working order, the videocard is just collecting dust.
I have searched everywhere for a simple answer and i thought i had it before seeing this chart. Will the darn videocard i have, work in my dual 800 quicksilver if i tap the damned pins or not?

graveyard: it clearly says X800/X850 (bottom row) align this row with the last column (for powermac g5) = YES
u dont have to tape any pins for the powermac g5
if u had to tape pins there would be a small "1" next to the yes
a great choice for the ppc g5 indeed!

oh wait u said for a QS? it says again on the chart yes with the "1" == works but yes u have to tape the pins (because its an 8x agp card)
im not sure why they are having two diffrent columns for 2001 QS vs 2002 QS when all of the answers are the exact same.. duhh ;)

what u think of this chart:) lol

i wonder why the later 2007-2009 radeon hd xxxx series cards or X1xxx series werent able to be used (RV570, RV580, RV620, RV630, RV710)

Ok, if i get the chance, i'll tape the pins and see if it works. All i found on the other forums and on the product specification page, clearly stated that the x800xt i have, won't work in anything else than Agp equipped G5. That's why i am all confused here. From what i know, it's a retail video card. I got it really cheap. I would like to test it under osx because it would simply crush the 7500 radeon i have in my QS at the moment. Too bad it doesn't have os9 drivers because that would make keep it in the machine for good. Another thing is that it has a DVI and and ADC port on it. So, if i tape the pins and it works, would i still be able to use my ADC display with it? I have a ForMac 20" ADC display which has a separate power supply.

yes 7500 radeon is a very low performing card, regardless of it having mac os 9 drivers or not it may provide proper functioning within os9 . u should test. thats pretty much the point of all the graphics stuff ive been posting the last few days.. it started with me reading that another person was able to use os9 fine with a 6800 GT nvidia card, and also a radeon 9800 pro.. so u really have to test this.. yes u could run into issues with resolutions..and possibly wont have proper performance for gaming in 3d.. but for regular 2d inside the native mac os 9 desktop it should work and provide alot better performance than the radeon 7500.

i just bought this card for 10$ on ebay..NV43 GPU @ 500MHZ,14.4GB/s...
i will be testing it in my MDD once i flash it and cover the pins 3+11 with tape! i bought this card because its one of the last supported nvidia cards with official drivers u can use with windows 98. and apparently i t can be made to use with the mdd for mac os x.. but i am also curious as to how it would function in an mdd booting mac os 9.. as many other people who do these flashing experiments were not interested at all in mac os 9.

this card is also supported by both 10.5.x + 10.6.x hackintosh distros.. so i plan to ultimately use it for this retro windows 98 + hackintosh dual booting board that i got from 2006.

@Graveyard - visit this page for more info on how bdaqua flashed his x800 xt card..
http://aqua-mac.com/macx800xtaqua-ma.html - apparently with the rom he used the dvi ports dont function tho so i think it would be limited to a single display

Well, this guy has a sapphire pc card which he flashed with a Mac rom. I on the other hand, have a Mac x800xt card. I have tested it in a G5 and it purrs like a kitten. I wanna see if it will work in my QS because all i've found so far, as i said before, stated that this card only works in G5 machines due to power consumption, Rom version and so on.

as you can see by all those "yes 1"'s on the bottom row of hte chart.. these guys are the pros and they say it works... so im quite sure it does.. u just need some scotch tape and a sharp exacto knife + a good light + some steady hands and youll have it working
