Title: Extreme mods on ALU PowerBooks? Reballing a Radeon 9000 Mobility?
Post by: Protools5LEGuy on March 11, 2015, 06:31:43 PM
I have seen on eBay lots of ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP for example:

You get the idea. Those are the components in a PowerBook Ti latest mobility chipset OS9 compatible.

Given that we have more models alowed to boot OS9  http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=2337.0 (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=2337.0) but those have graphics cards are OSX "only" and behave as raw frame-buffer, I was wondering if anyone has heard about "someone" downgrading graphics cards on Laptops.

Imagine paying a tech to make a reballing of the graphics card on a Alu Powerbook with those 9000 mobility chips. If they are pin compatible...

There have to be some models "pin compatible" on http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/index-powerbook-g4.html (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/index-powerbook-g4.html)

Maybe this http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.0_15.html (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.0_15.html) Mobility Radeon 9600 be reballed with a 9000?

Or this http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.25_15.html (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.25_15.html)?

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.25_17.html (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.25_17.html) has radeon 9600 too

9700 on http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.33_15.html (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.33_15.html) All quickers left have 9700 or nVidia 5200go

It is a dream to have a portable G4 at 1.67 for OS9 with the graphics supported not as framebuffer. Maybe some modells could worth the economic fee of the reballing

So the question is : Is pinout compatible Mobility Radeon 9000 with M.R. 9200, 9600 or 9700?

The same could be elaborate for nVidia Go! laptops graphic chipsets.

Someone willing to donate an ALU PowerBook to M.A.R.L.?  ;D

From other perspective, maybe is easier to change the GPU on iBooks G4.  ???

Or a PB Ti sub 1GHz with a Mob.Rad. 7500 reballed with a 9000?
