For a Mac OS 9 computer a good alternative could be a wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming or media adapter) connected to the Ethernet port of the computer. There are devices from several manufacturers (examples include Linksys WET610N and Netgear WNCE2001). Since special driver software is not (normally) needed, a wireless Ethernet bridge can be used with old computers under almost any operating system. A new wireless Ethernet bridge would support modern wireless security standards.

Like Mac OS X, OS 9 includes the AirPort software you need to put a Mac with an AirPort card on a wireless network. If your Mac uses OS 9 and is AirPort ready, you can use an Apple AirPort card and OS 9 software to join a wireless network.
The original AirPort card is an 802.11b adapter. It's compatible with Apple's own AirPort and AirPort Extreme base stations and with other vendor's 802.11b and 802.11g access points and gateways.
No third-party vendors have produced Mac OS 9 drivers for their 802.11g cards. Fortunately, an AirPort-equipped Mac can join a "g" network, since the network standard is backward-compatible with 802.11b.
In this section, we describe basic wireless setup under OS 9, special situations for older Macs, and ad-hoc networking. First, install an AirPort card according to the directions that came with your Mac.

Should you have any old laptop with wireless working not being used around your house you can run OSX, Linux or Windows and share the laptop wireless through the ethernet port of the laptop.
Solution #2 Very affordable
See if you have a router you are not using any longer and if it supports wireless extender functions or see if you can flash its firmware with DD-WRT or other third party firmware and put the router in client bridge or wireless repeater mode. Depending on what mode you choose you will be able to have the first router to DHCP all the machines attached to the second router so that all of them stay on the same subnet.

i tried to do exactly this last night.. using my intel imac to forward the wireless connection (Which works great!) thru the ethernet port of the imac to my D-link boxee box (for watching movies off your local network) and it did NOT WORK at all because the shared connection automatically routed it to a new 192.168.*2*.1 subnet and all my shared files were on the 192.168.*1*.1 subnet!!!! i messed around with it + tried to get it to apply it an ip in the same subnet and it just wouldnt work for me at all! does anyone do this? maybe id have an easier time of it using a different os.. (i tried Snow leopard + i think yosemite, same difference)
