Installation Help・Extending the functionality of Mac OS 9 Post
Mac OS 9 Within Reach.
You are here ◉
So you finally got your hands in something that, 'at least' can run;
Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah
Mac OS X 10.1 Puma
Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar
Mac OS X 10.3 Panther
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
And you’re using the Classic Environment to reach Mac OS 9.
Or you are using emulators such as;
Basilisk II (https://basilisk.cebix.net) -An Open Source 68k Macintosh emulator for Mac OS 0.x thru 8.1
Mini vMac (https://www.gryphel.com/c/minivmac/) emulate a Macintosh Plus and can run Apple Macintosh System versions 1.1 to 7.5.5
SheepShaver (https://sheepshaver.cebix.net) -An Open Source PowerMac Emulator for Mac OS 9.0.4
Maybe you’re using the Chubby Bunny bundle.
Or you are using PowerPC emulation such as QEMU;
QEMU with Mac OS 9 guest *and working audio.

Or you have a RaspBerry PI.
Or you are using something else -the list goes on...
In any case, you've found a way to reach any of the Original Operating Systems, but what n⦿w ?
Howto play a synthesizer or in a DAW in Mac OS 9, from your positi⦿n ?
Get:
OMS & V.M.K properly installed.
OMS (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/open-music-system-238-oms) (Opcode MIDI System/Open Music System) 2.3.8 will do. Install▷ Click Search▷ Click OK. Now you can use the ○○ IAC Bus #1
V.M.K (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/virtual-midi-keyboard) “lets you use your computer keyboard as a MIDI controller unit. It is primarily developed for PowerBook users on the run, but may be useful for anyone without a MIDI keyboard at hand.”
If you launch your synth first -before you launch V.M.K -you can choose the synth from V.M.K's MIDI Port.
This only works for Macintosh PPC.
I’ll search for 68K options.
All-right, so you’re in Mac OS 9, and you wanna to try 68k architecture applicati⦿n ?
Get:
SoftwareFPU (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/softwarefpu-307)
or
PowerFPU (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/powerfpu)
From our beloved Macintosh Garden (https://macintoshgarden.org)
Try your first synth:
Absynth 1.0.2.sit
If this doesn't work.
Download:
Absynth 1.0.2.sit.hqx
(Use Stuffit (https://macintoshgarden.org/search/node/stuffit) to Remove BinHex Encoding -within Mac OS 9)
You can also try other standalone synthesizers like, Unity DS-1 or Retro AS-1 etc.
Enjoy!
