Title: YAHOO GROUPS SHUTTING DOWN
Post by: Syntho on October 20, 2019, 03:35:02 PM
If you're a member of any Yahoo group, go there ASAP and download any and all files for whichever group you're a part of.

First they took Yahoo games away when I was addicted to Pool. Now they come for the good stuff  >:(

I don't use Facebook but a lot of people are migrating to Facebook groups. In my opinion, Yahoo should work with the Internet Archive to archive everything. They won't unfortunately.

Chris grabbed the entire files section of the Yahoo group and has them mirrored at:

Precisely. There's an abundance of information for all kinds of things. Individual synthesizers, tape machines, specific outboard gear... all gone. At least Google acquired a lot of old newsgroups and put them on Google Groups. Yahoo just doesn't care.

Seems like yahoo has been slowly eroding away since the death of geo cities.

Sorry… I've been busy chasing emails specifically about the Opcode User Group on Yahoo and I jumped to a conclusion.

I meant that Chris has mirrored the entirety of the Opcode files from Yahoo at the link above.

I'm an owner of a Yahoo group, but have heard nothing.

A rare visit to their atrocious website gives the following message:

"Attention: Starting December 14, 2019 Yahoo Groups will no longer host user created content on its sites. New content can no longer be uploaded after October 28, 2019. Sending/Receiving email functionality is not going away, you can continue to communicate via any email client with your group members."

I don't intrepret that as shutting down - they just won't be storing files.

yeah i have a few groups too and got nothing directly from them. but i dont have any files there, maybe that´s why?

they needed like 4 years or so to finish the transition from the old look to the new look and now they delete files section.^^
