Title: Alternative to LaCie SilverKeeper
Post by: Europa on December 01, 2018, 04:58:18 AM
I am looking for a replacement for LaCie's SilverKeeper backup program. I really like the way it operates and the relative ease of use, but it crashes quite a bit. I suspect that it encounters files it doesn't like for whatever reason on my hard drive and freaks out because of that. Is there any good alternative that keeps the ease of use but is more stable?

On OS9 I use "Personal Backup" 2.0.1
It's fast, painless and reliable. Find it here:  http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/personal-backup

It's the closest thing to having Time Machine for OS 7-9

Great!
Thanks Gary.

Also when i read thats from Intego i was reminded of something...then i saw that in the comments:

"The uploader is Jay Vrijenhoek, one of the security staff at Intego, the company that wrote this and the other two Intego packages uploaded (NetBarrier and VirusBarrier) with the company's permission - consider them officially free, officially unsupported gifts Smile

More information here: https://www.intego.com/mac-security-blog/mac-os-9-some-love-for-the-clas...
"

I personally try to support companys that still care about PowerPC.
I just bought Diskwarrior5!

Happy to see some converts!
Anyone who prowls the Forum has probably seen my never-ending rants regarding protecting your OS9 volume from Spotlight and Time Machine.
I use Personal Backup for my OS9 drive because it can be setup to incrementally backup a data volume either automatically or with a single click very much like Time Machine without the evil directory-destroying side effects. It's just a damn good app.

That makes sense. I primarily do manual backups, but the automatic backup functionality is appreciated just in case i ever need it. I also like the Carbon Copy Cloner-like copy dialogue that shows you how many files and how many megabytes are left to copy (although Carbon Copy Cloner counts up) and the current file that it is copying.  :D
