I'm trying to find a shortcut for 'hide program' like is in the top right of your screen. Is there one for that? If not, is there any software that can help with creating one?

QuicKeys, QuicKeys, QuicKeys.
It uses very little memory, is always on and does almost everything you wish was built into the OS.

One more new AppleScript feature in Mac OS 9 is the Speech Listener application. This program can be found in the Speakable Items folder, and allows your script to take advantage of Speech Recognition. Its listen for command lets you specify a list of phrases that the user can speak

That could be a problem. I have a CD. I'll have to check re: a valid SN# and see if I can find a pdf manual. it's a fairly elaborate macro-making app with a learning curve and the only manuals may be on paper.
I think for what you want… the "hide app" function, DieHard is right. You can probably write an Applescript that will do it and trigger it with a function key.
