Finding of the day:
MoreAmp from late 2009 for Mac OS 9.
Audio player, transcoder and cd ripper. Plays and creates ogg, flac, mp3, aac, m4a, mp4, wav, and aif, and plays wma. 31-band equalizer, repeat loop, variable pitch/tempo, ram or ramdisk preload, more.

Looks awesome Mat...never found this one... Thanks :P

well, ...
Due to patent restrictions, the MoreAmp binary executable is distributed
with only the flac and ogg encoders (and aif and wav) compiled in, i.e.
without the mp3 or aac/mp4 encoders.
If you want MoreAmp for unix/linux, or a MoreAmp that creates mp3 and/or
aac/mp4 files, or to otherwise modify MoreAmp, you can build it yourself
from the source code distribution. Go to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/moreamp/
click on 'Download' and select the latest MoreAmp-x.x.x-src.tar.gz.
For build instructions for each platform see the INSTALLxxx.txt files, and
the 'READMElibsXXX' files in the 'libs' dir of the source distributation.
Any coders around?

i really would love to be able to code an app in mac os 9! i have a copy of codewarrior 8 which is what u want to use to accomplish this task i think but this topic is very interesting to me...... i wanted to figure out how ro if i could write device drivers for a generic midi usb cable to work with os9..

The Mac os 9 version is 0.1.23. The source code version is 0.1.28 and is for Xcode compiler. The Xcode compiler is for mac os X only. I don't know if a old version of Xcode can compile for Mac Os 9 (I only have used it once) but even if it does it may be a very hard task.
-
A 0.1.23. version with all the availaible codecs would be enough.
-
I have set up a build environment on my TiBook and I'm trying to give it a go ;). You can't compile OS9 binaries with Xcode. It might be able to generate Carbon binaries, but that's about it. I'll keep everyone posted!
-
Nobody asked for an xcode version, ...
I just asked if somebody can compile the recent Mac OS 9 version including the codecs, like written in the readme above. Nothing else.

Ok, me either asked for an xcode version. But that's is the only available for Mac (0.1.28).
We had to find the source code version 0.1.23 and see what we have in it ;)

We need that player. Probably better than Audion/iTunes.

What's the problem? It's avalible to download compiled. Just download it and use it :)
Attached it to the post as well.

We need a MacTron:"Time for the truth" post comparing all the audioplayers ;D

Well. I'll do it very quickly:
Time for the truth: the best MP3 Players:
1º SoundJam MP
2º ...
Audion, iTunes
...
LOL
... and if you need AC3 playback: Mint MP3 player. OGG Vorbis can be played with Audion, I think.

This is perfect for me! I have around a terabyte of FLAC and it's great to access it in OS 9.
-
i´ve recently tried it out only to find out that flac and aac do seem to be not supported in OS9.
not a big suprise, but a little bummer.
& pls correct me if i am wrong...

so is this the only player for os9 that can handle .m4a + .aac?

btw. some of the codecs you get if you install final cut pro and such apps or turn quicktime into the pro version.
