Installing Digital Performer 2.7
« on: April 10, 2014, 04:42:18 PM »
Anyone ever tried this one?
The installer doesn't seem to be working... A message will pop up: 'Can not locate the installer CD!'
I tried both Easy and Custom installs to no avail. I'm using a burned CD, for the matter.
PowerBook G3/266 Wallstreet PDQ (Late 1998) OS 9.2.2
iBook G4/1.33 12" (Mid 2005) OS 10.4.11
MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011) OS 10.6.8

I just tried this myself and I get the same thing. I thought that we had to deselect "Install Freemidi" and that it would work, but it doesn't seem to be working. Hmm...

I just read that the most common problem is that people are trying to install something within the classic environment in OSX and that the solution is to boot into OS9. We're already doing that...

Also I notice that on these DP CDs, the session isn't closed or something. It tells you that you've got some free space left on the disc. I thought that if it were a closed session that it wouldn't do that.

Maybe this has something to do with the amount of ram we have or hard drive sizes or something?

Also, I'm wondering if this has something to do with maybe this image being made in OSX instead of OS9. There's a 'desktop folder' on the image, but I'm only seeing that appear on OSX and not OS9. Not sure exactly how that works but maybe someone with the original needs to make a copy on OS9 instead of OSX.

i think whoever did this cd image, did it in a hurry, and didnt test it.
and there was obviously some type of error?
as far as i know the motu dp series didnt incorporate any physical copy protection

I'm wondering if the RAM is the problem. I'm a little too tired to take out some ram chips on my MDD at the moment. Everyone else said their problem was trying to install it in Classic mode but that's not the issue.

im thinking this is due to extensions in os 9.2
like disabling the apple cd/dvd driver extension maybe?
or maybe theres another extension thats interfering with the installer somehow

disregard that stupid comment, thats not the reason. its got nothing to do with osx the reason for this... trust me.

i think its got everything to do with the way the cd was copied personally i think whoever copied the disk didnt even check to see if it worked to install before uploading it..

It's not a stupid comment.

I think we need the person who made the image to re-image it. I wonder if it was DH or MacTron. I imagine it as DH.

It's not a stupid comment.

it is a stupid comment.. for less informed people, from about 10 years ago, when things were new + changing fast, nowadays everyone knows u cant run audio apps in classic environment, classic environment is a joke, its for running old word processor apps it was a bandaid solution to help businesses transition from 9 to X, it was never intended to be really used extensively especially not for audio or video.

therefore, i think the comment that someone thinks its of value to say that its a solution a digital performer cd installer error... to not be installing it under osx classic environment? LOL. give me a break. thats a stupid comment dude ;) where did u see that? on the sweetwater forum?

i also imagine it was DH . and that he didnt test it at all... there may be a difference in the programming of this installer, or perhaps the memory comment on the sweetwater page is accurate and that 1gb of ram is throwing the installer off, having been programmed back in 1998 or so? when is digital performer 2.7 from? it hink its quite old..
it may need a smaller hd/smaller ram size it could be that the installer is referencing or checking the size of these... bad coding whatever it is..

The official MOTU site. Call them stupid.

This was actually released in 2000, at least the 2.7 version, now that I check.

What did you do? Or is this an installer fix from MOTU? I wonder what the problem was.
