DP4 updates?
« on: April 09, 2014, 05:44:09 PM »
Are there any updates available for the DP4 currently hosted here?
If I'm not mistaken, version 4 goes up to 4.6. We currently have only the installer (version 4.1).
The updaters at MOTU require web authentication, which I believe won't work.
FYI, I gave a shot and installed on OS X Tiger (I reckon it's not OS 9, please forgive).
It runs, but somehow it won't just quit here, which requires me to shut it down "brute-force".
PowerBook G3/266 Wallstreet PDQ (Late 1998) OS 9.2.2
iBook G4/1.33 12" (Mid 2005) OS 10.4.11
MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011) OS 10.6.8

yes pretty sure u need the updates to gain 100% compatibility with 10.4.11
perhaps if u didnt update to 10.4.11 it may work with no problems? i think there was an update
that broke all audio apps around 10.4.6 i believe?

i bet u would get better results trying to run it on 10.3.9 if you cant find the updates
DP4 was released way back in may of 2003... which was even before the release of panther 10.3 itself
so the os it was designed for originally was Jaguar (10.2.x)
the initial release of jaguar was on August 23rd 2002
and the final update "v10.2.8" was made on  October 3rd, 2003

DP5 however was released in april of 2006.. and is a much better match for osx tiger
because tiger had already been released for 1 year prior to the release of DP5..
(osx tiger was released in april of 2005)
which would confirm that the dp4 updates u seek would be a fix for the symptoms u are experiencing
but u may have an easier time finding dp5 then u would tracking down a series of updates..
unless u can find a registered motu user who would be able to get the updates for you.

to add to this information:
DP6 was released in november of 2008..
osx leopard was released in june of 2006
and was at version 10.5.5. as of nov/2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Leopard
imo making dp6 the better match for leopard
+ intel powered daw's
dp6 remained current untill about september 2009
at which point dp7 was released (shortly after the final update
to osx leopard, entitled 10.5.8 which was released in mid-august 2009)
snow leopard had been released in june/2009 and was at v10.6.1 in september 09..
i believe this would make dp7 a better match for snow leopard
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Snow_Leopard

hopefully this gives u greater insight into the relationship between mac os x versions + Digital performer revisions!

Diehard, if you don't mind, I would like to grab this 4.11 update of yours.
I can't install Panther on my iBook, so I'm stuck with DP 4.1 or DP5, the later seems to be quite hard to find these ways, that is, in working conditions...

Speaking of DP in general, have you guys heard about these training series from VTC?
http://www.vtc.com/products/Digital-Performer-2.7-tutorials.htm
10 hours of video tutorials for DP 2.7... amazing!   ;)

I have the installer CD for version 4.6.1 and I could upload if your interested or still require.

Sure, MR MAGOO is on the job now and when it's found we'll upload.

There was a similar programme by OPCODE but can't remember the name. Anyone recall the name ?

Had to make this "second" post because I missed the time limit to amend.

Just to clarify, will have to "toast" it and upload somewhere. OH RIGHT, and find the serial numbers.

Excuse me for busting into this room.

I;ve got DP6 but for some reason don't have 5 .

That's puzzling for me since i have the performers and the digital performers up to and including 4, then missing 5, and then 6 up to and including 8. When is 9 coming out ?
