atx power supply in mdd
« on: March 28, 2014, 03:57:01 AM »
hey guys,

probably you are all aware of this, but it is really easy to use a standard tax power supply for your mdd! just follow this post and you will be all set:

http://idecker.blogspot.ch/2012/02/standard-atx-power-supply-in-powermac.html

the only downside is that you loose support for adc because of the missing 28v

the upside for me is that my atx power supply is dead silent :-)

it would be nice to try one of these mini-itx psus to put "directly in same place" as the old mdd psu

Also, from the laserhive for all those G4 with motherboard/cpu/psu broken a conversion to the box to be mATX, for those REALLY dead powermacs that do not worth repairing

A cool case for a x86 machine, don't you think?

There is a 16 June 2014 update on http://atxg4.com/mdd.html
He is accepting orders, I guess.
He is making them really pro!

No more dead MDDs due to the PSU.

Time to combine threads? ;)  http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=1879.0

Anyway, I ordered one for a MDD. Great work. BTW, would skip mini itx and look at micro atx. No case cutting needed and can be far smaller then mini itx given current day options/offerings in micro atx power supplies.

What I did was just buy an ATX extension cable. Then I removed the molex pins from the connectors and put them where I needed them. It was a fairly quick and easy job.

Powerfull (for micro atx, 450 watt) power supply in my setup (just posted these images in thread about h20 cooling). Micro ATX has a great fit in this case.
